Rejoyce, my fellow subsimmers!

Here's an English source. (http://www.dpa-international.com/news/top_stories/german-cinema-classic-das-boot-to-get-long-overdue-sequel-as-series-a-49770513.html)

"The broadcaster and production house said they have set aside a budget of 25 million euros (28 million dollars) to develop the series, scheduled to premiere in 2018.

Like the original, the plot of the new film will be lifted from the novels of Lothar-Guenther Buchheim and will focus on the German perspective during World War II, the filmmakers said."

At the moment there's not much info about its plot out there. If they want to follow Buchheim's works, my best bet is that they will take "The Fortress" as an inspiration.

In another source the producer stated that they will likely build a new boat, instead of using the old U96 which is still at Bavaria studios.

Given that they have the original film company and the planned budget, I'm mildly optimistic that it could become something great...

Anyone know if Die Festung will ever be published in English? It's "only" 1,500 pages long, so if it gets published by the end of the years, I might be able to finish reading it by the time this series is released.

Might. :rotfl2:
