With your first GWX patrol - don't do any upgrades before leaving port, or you won't get any renown. Make no changes at all. Start the game and directly start your patrol.
Reaching the ordered grid or coming back into your port will not grant any renown in GWX (as far as I remember).
Sink only enemy targets or you will be punished with no or even negative renown!
Renown is related to tonnage!
Smaller ships = smaller amount of renown - larger ships = larger amount of renown.
You are rewarded with renown in relation to your difficulty settings: high 'realism' will result in more renown for a destroyed target.
You won't get any renown for a damaged ship that sinks after you left the scenery. Stay within a few kilometers (~25km) until the ship sinks.
Single missions add no renown to your career.
Should be all to be know about renown, I guess.
The number of missions per year depends on the length of your patrols and the number of days you have to stay in port for resupply and repairs.
More damage takes more time in port, new equipment adds up too.
Your renown adds up with every successful patrol. but you have to pay renown for new equipment.
