Looks tough.

Good luck City Hall.

Despite drugs, rats and bursts of violence, some residents of The Jungle don’t want to leave the Seattle homeless encampment. Even two people wounded in a January shooting have returned, suggesting the challenges the city faces in cleaning up the camp

The rather left-leaning Seattle City Council decided that the solution to this problem was to rename "The Jungle" since words can hurt and diminish.

“The last number of weeks, we have been talking a lot about the greenbelt,” Seattle City Council member Sally Bagshaw said during a council meeting Tuesday. “It used to be known to us as the Jungle, but words matter and, as someone pointed out to me, there are people living under there that are not getting the kind of attention they need and deserve.” So, the Jungle is now the "Interstate-5 East Duwamish Green Belt." Just kind of rolls off the tongue, don't it? Not that it's done one thing to improve the lot of those living there since the name resolution was passed. :88)

Like that time our goverment renamed the airport from Brnik airport to Jože Pučnik airport (a pint for any yenk, brit or canuck that can say it without therapy), and 90% of the population still says they're going to Brnik.

When a name sticks, it sticks.

True. Although it's been named Ho Chi Minh City for over forty years, the majority of residents still call it Saigon. Sorry, Hanoi.

The nice thing about the Jungle moniker is whenever the local radio talk shows harp on the subject they can play the 1980s Guns N' Roses song; Welcome to the Jungle as a bumper.

Which is about the only nice thing about the Jungle.
