Hi folks,

I only just started playing SH5 (with Wolves of Steel) and cannot for the life of me figure out how to go to external view! I ensured that the "no external view" was unchecked and applied before starting my career. I have tried hitting the F2 key and also mashing the button in the top right that says "external view," but nothing happens.

What's the secret? :hmmm:

I'm just using Wolves of Steel with the update #12, and that's it. I'm using the non-Steam version of the game too.

Once I go to Options and make sure the box for external view is unchecked/apply changes, I am then ready to start my campaign. There is then another selection box in the middle of the bottom of the screen that defaults "difficulty" to Medium. I have been changing that to Realistic. Could this be the cause of my problem? I'll try that out when I get home this evening.

Yup, that's exactly what is doing it. The main Options is only for multiplayer and historical missions. Campaign games have an entirely separate options screen. Realistic will turn off external camera.

So when you first start your career and you're first in port hit ESC, and set your Options there for that campaign. Fairly sure you can change this anytime you're in port going forward as well.

Selecting Options from the main menu will allow you to change to the game play settings from the realism setting that were chosen when the new career was made.
When any changes are made this then shows as a custom option.
To keep the changes you must make a game save the best time to make changes is before you start a mission and then use that bunker game save to start your game.
You can make game play setting changes anytime you are in the bunker.

Ahhhh, OK! The game is set up a little confusing to me then. So just to be sure, I don't need to mess with the main options screen, but rather:

1)select difficulty=realistic
2)start campaign
3)from inside the bunker save game, THEN go to options and uncheck the box which concerns the external view.
4)be on my way

Is this accurate?

I'll probably wait until I make it off my first patrol to make the change, as I just scored my first kill!! (a British U-Class sub which was destroyed with my deck gun) :D

Hi Whippy
No.
3)from inside the bunker save game, THEN go to options and uncheck the box which concerns the external view.3) go to options and uncheck the box which concerns the external view THEN
from inside the bunker save game.
The rule is, any changes made to the game settings has to be followed by a game save or the changed settings will not happen and you will have the same settings as before.
4. Load the new saved game.
