Flying Dutchman

Hello, Guys
I've been playing SH4 for quite some time, And lurking the forums as well,
Sorry I've never posted before, Just never had something to say until now.

I'm currently on pause and have saved game as well because I've never seen this before in all my years at sea and under it. I just got freaked out !

I've encountered the Flying Dutchman :arrgh!: not kidding either
Currently patrolling the Straight of Luzon summer 1943 and radioed a contact report (Passenger liner/fubuki convoy) got the return msg engage convoy, so I surfaced from 33 feet and start to run at flank to get ahead of the convoy and up pops this anomaly on radar speeding at the enemy convoy seeming to attack it. I thought it was a Pt boat from shape and the speed it was going on the map so I did the next ship view etc and low and behold the Dutchman a 46 gun three masted sailing vessel !! sparkling and bedazzled in greenish mist I'm just baffled. I took 3 screenies, Like I said game is on pause this moment. So I just went to look again, It's definitely there and steaming for the japs and they are starting to shelling it !!

I'm out of range still and cannot help him engage, But the Dutchman just tacked and looks like he's going to try and cross the T on them :rock: :salute:

Lucky, I've been playing this game for sometime and I've never encountered it. The only "rare" encounter that I had is with a Japanese submarine.

Lucky ? Okay ! So Being me I've stopped it and captured her so to speak, The Japs really don't like her at all and I've already defended her against two air attacks and shot down one flying boat and damaged a Betty bomber. What should I do with her?? If I could grapple it, I'd try towing her back to Pearl !! Anyone have an Idea what to do with it ? It's a friendly ship I'm right along side her. We're both dead stopped and it won't move seems like it wants me to help it ? Or I'm supposed to do something.

You're lucky, I've had SH4 since release day 1 and still never seen her. Good find. I don't think there's anything you can do with it. You can't even shoot it as it has no damage files!!

Well, I've spent almost 6 hours now real time around her, under her and defending her, The only advice I can give to any other wayward sailor is stay clear of her.

The Nips have this ghost ship under a almost continual air attack, about every 45 minutes or so flying out of Formosa, And having expended nearly all our 40 mike mike ammunition and not being able too push, tow or coerce it into moving again as the pig boat will pass right through it, So I'm abandoning our captured prize. It does not seem to be following us as I'd hoped it might. An Continuing on with the mission. I wrote down the coordinates marked it on the chart and will swing back by on our return trip to check on her again. :ping:

I'm starting to think it is possible the rations have gone bad aboard or Carl the Cook caught and prepared some poisonous fish by accident. :88)

Welcome, you can sail right through her to find out for sure if you're seeing things.

I, too, have seen the Dutchman" chased him around awhile, nothing amazing happened. I finally just went off on my way.
Just a little Easter Egg from the designers, I think.
