Deck Gun .. how to?

I have TDW NewUI installed. Love the game but can't figure out how to get the Deck Gun crew to work with ME? They don't seem to care what target I've selected through the Ob Scope or deck scope. Sometimes they don't fire at all, other times they select targets at random.

What's the trick... please be specific as I've tried all sorts of combinations, like: WO - Man the Deck Gun, WO - Deck Gun icon - select any target options there and Fire at Will. Nothing... or they fire randomly.
