Does anybody knows if there is a tutorial on how to use the sextant in WoS?? I have tried looking for something related, even in youtube with no success.

Tnx!

I don't think it even works properly and there are no instructions.

But try this:

Not at all...According to Sjizzle, celestial sphere and sextant in SH5 are almost 100% correct...:yep:

what do u mean by instruction ? if u have read that thread there clear instruction how to calculate your position

I have read the thread, that's why I posted the link. But the sextant tool itself doesn't seem to give the proper reading and there is no instruction as to its use; what does Set Ref Azimuth mean as it applies to the game?

Even when I placed my sub in the exact position from the tutorial I got a different calculation, something like 100 -200km away and my initial altitude figure was way off.
The problem is when I try and get the initial altitude of the sun. In that tutorial in pics 3-4 you say to align the sextant to the water line and then search for the sun but the numbers in the altitude readout don't change for me. The only way to get them to change is to press Set Reference Azimuth, then when I do that the numbers change as i move around but the final number is not what its supposed to be. :nope:
So I tried different ways to use it to get that number but it's in the Set Ref Azimuth that the problem lies.

I hope I didn't come off as being too critical, the sextant tutorial is extremely valuable but I could never get a correct reading from the sextant. I'm sorry, i would have posted pics if I were at home.

Well, unfortunately that's the first and most important detail - the altitude of the stellar body above the horizon. There used to be an old sextant .dds file that looked like a vertical red ruler in one of the mods, i can't remember which. But it was easy to just line the bottom with the horizon and read the sun height at above. :hmmm:

u can get the altitude from any stellar object with the sextant....u need to use it like the stadimeter and u get the altitude.......

my question then would be ......how is it possible that the in game celestial positions of the sun and the moon could coincide and be the same as in the almanac (real world)? :hmmm:

Why? You think that something like that shouldn't be possible? :hmm2:

install stellarium and u will see the the all celestial object are 100% accurate with that time of period here i am including also the stars there are some picture in TWoS thread with the sun position in that period of time in and game and is 100% accurate......

That's incredible, I mean to get it that accurate is very comendable on the part of the designers.:yeah:

Yes but how does the sextant tool work? I think LCQ_SH's first question was whether there is a instruction for it.

I am not doubting about your work mate, I am just still amused by the game engine accuracy regarding the astronomy and position of celestial objects. :o

By fhe way, any idea or recomendation on how to look at the stars at night? I just simply cannot identify any set using the celestial charts. Nothing is wrong with them but my spacial looking skills are deficient. :wah:
