View Full Version : SH4 with TMO 2.5 Next/Previous Unit View
Gooday to all, I just intalled TMO 2.5 & lost the ability to get 360 external view of units (, /. keys) I have read post & have removed the (;) from both Cmd 50 & Cmd 51 in the command config, still no 360 view of units. Can someone help?
Thanks for any & all replays.

Hrm...
Do you have "No External View" checked in options?
Where did you modify commands.cfg? Did you edit it in SH4\Data\Cfg or in SH4\Mods\TMO\Data\Cfg?
Gooday Sir,
First, thank you for the reply.
No, the "No External View" is not checked in options.
I have external view but it will not allow me to center the view over the unit
"chase view" or allow a 360 view of unit.
I have edited both the SH4 Data Commands Config & the SH4 MODS TMO Data Commands Config.

Read the Realism Section of the TMO_Manual.pdf. It explains the changes and the rationale behind those changes of the External Camera View operation. It's part of the TMO experience to reduce the outlandish situational awareness allowed by the external camera depending on difficulty settings when playing with the TMO Mod.
edit> Also in regards to Next/Previous Unit View see the Frequently Asked Questions on page 47 of the TMO manual
2.) How do i get the next / previous camera back?
Ah, I see in your OP you've already done seen this so I must presume you are playing at a higher TMO difficulty level that disallows the External View altogether. if you want External View capability at the higher difficulty settings you will have to alter the contents of GamePlaySettings.cfg... (AFTER you have started a TMO v2.5 Pacific War Campaign, but BEFORE setting out on the first Patrol). To get the view back you must set NoExternalView=False. TMO at higher levels sets this to True. There are several copies of GamePlaySettings.cfg in the My Documents/SH4/... subfolders, but the one that matters is the one in My Documents/SH4/data/cfg/GamePlaySettings.cfg NOT the ones in the various saves during a patrol. Best time to alter this is when you are in port prior to starting a mission. At that time exit the game prior to starting a patrol and change the above mentioned File at that location and identical files in the in-port autosave folders.
Be sure to make backup copies of any files you are considering altering in case you have a glitch, then you can copy the original file back.
Hope this helps.

I know what you mean. I don't like the change either. I wish Ducimus kept the external views as they were. I tried to change them back, but was unsuccessful. I just accept it because rest of TMO is so great.

Well, then it should work.
Are you having the problem in a campaign? Have you tried the Next/Previous unit cameras in one of the training missions?
There's difficulty settings on the main menu. I'm not sure why that option actually exists. It's caused more confusion than any benefit it gives.
When you start a campaign, you can choose the difficulty settings. That choice will override the main menu settings.

Once you go into the office, before going on patrol, look to the left. There's a radio on the shelf.

Select that, and it will bring up a menu with Sound, Graphics, and Gameplay settings. Go to the Gameplay section, and reset all the difficulty settings here.
(No offense if this is all stuff you know. I don't know anything about your experience with SH4, and my tech support experience has repeatedly beaten into me that you should never assume the user knows what they're doing until proven otherwise.)
Thank you all for the responses.
Razark, No offense taken I appreciate any & all help.
Good.
Hope you get it working. I've tried without the cameras, and I can't stand it.

The solution to all problems TMO is to read the Manual that nobody reads. It says:
2.) How do i get the next / previous camera back?
The easiest way is to be a big cheater, is open the /data/cfg/commands.cfg in TMO. Search for "
[Cmd50] " Your looking for these two blocks:
[Cmd50]
Name=Camera_on_next_unit
Ctxt=1
;Key0=0xBE,,">"
Page=0x34000000,3714
[Cmd51]
Name=Camera_on_prev_unit
Ctxt=1
;Key0=0xBC,,"<"
Page=0x34000000,3714
Simply remove the semicolon placed in front of the key assignment, and you have the next/previous
cameras back. Note: this will restore the hot keys. It will not restore the buttons on the ordersbar.

Read the FINE manual!

:nope:
The opening post of the thread:
I have read post & have removed the (;) from both Cmd 50 & Cmd 51 in the command config
Ok, I have removed the " ; " in from both Cmd 50 & Cmd 51 in the /data/cfg/commands.cfg in TMO. I get the external view of selected unit but it will not give me the 360 view as it dose in 1.5 and as I had in TMO 1.9 This is the external view I get (rotates 360 from that spot not on the unit as I am trying to get)
Maybe this will help explain what I am trying to get.

Okay, so you're not looking for next/previous unit at all! You want external view of your own sub and the ability to fly that camera where you want. I think all you have to do there is just turn on the option in the options screen. I always use it for screenshots.
No cheating now!

TMO 2.5 takes over the options selections internally and sets them according to the difficulty selected when starting a Pacific War Campaign, so he has to modify the MOD by re-setting the External View option directly in the My Documents/SH4 folders as explained in Post #4 above.

Actually the best solution is to install TMOKeys. Its keyboard layout is old school TMO, not 2.5,but I like using the y key to switch stern tubes anyway.
Thank you for the replies. My apologies for all the confusion on my part. Will DL & try the TMOkey & then get use to using that key layout.
Again thank you for all the time & help given
Have SH4 1.5 installed only Mods installed are TMO 2.5 & TMOKeys. I have removed the ( ; ) from Cmd line 50 & 51 in Mods, TMO 2.5 Data, Command. Config to get the external view back. Have unchecked the No External View in Options, Main Menu (single mission) & in the Options (clock) in the office, (Pacific Submarine Campaign) & I still do not have the flyby view of units. Dose anyone have any other thoughts on how to get the flyby view back? As always thank you for any & all help.

I still do not have the flyby view of units.
What exactly do you mean by "flyby view of units"?
From your earlier post:
I get the external view of selected unit but it will not give me the 360 view as it dose in 1.5 and as I had in TMO 1.9 This is the external view I get (rotates 360 from that spot not on the unit as I am trying to get)
So you are getting the view focused on other units when pressing the keys?
When you go to that view, you are able to pan the camera, while it remains in the same spot relative to the unit?
Can you move the camera position relative to the unit using the arrow keys?
Gooday Razark, The view I get is the offset camera view that comes with TMO 2.5. after removing the ( ; ) on Cmd line 50 & 51.
To answer your questions (1. Yes I get the view of units when pressing the ( , and . ) keys. (2. No. The camera dose not pan around the selected unit.
Somehow in TMO 1.9 I got the view to center on the selected unit & can do a 360 pan around the unit using the arrow keys and the view will stay centered on the selected unit. This is what I am trying to get TMO 2.5 to do.

All the advice above about resetting the view command in TMO is correct. But I'm not sure just having the external view of other objects (ships) will answer your second issue.
To rotate 360 around your own boat or a different object, click the mouse so the cursor is gone, then use the < and > keys to rotate either way around the object. If you also use the shift key it will speed the movement around the object. You can also get closer or farther using the up or down arrows accordingly.
One other thing, I went into the TMO 2.5 that I downloaded and changed the CMD 50 and 51 per postings above in that "original" version instead of just doing it in the installed version. That way any time I have to reload TMO 2.5 the change is already there. Saves some work. But you will always have to change the Options in the Office Radio to allow external views regardless of the settings within TMO. Do this once at the start of a career. Good luck and good hunting! :salute:

Ok, so that is working and people can stop telling you to read the manual...

Honestly, I've been using TMO for a long time, and I don't remember the unit camera ever acting like that. If it is TMO affecting how the camera handles, it's going to take editing the files to undo whatever changes were made. Sorry to say, I don't know anything about that part.
Oooh! I found an unmodded stock version of SH4 on my system.
Ah. Wow. Ok, now I see what you're trying to do. Yeah, that's going to require editing some file to redefine the camera behavior.

You are missing a simple point. You got it to pan around the unit in 1.9 when you left clicked the mouse. This released the fixed position of the camera and allows you to move it around the unit, or zoom in or out, using the regular keys for viewing. It works exactly the same in 2.5.
Ok i found a solution to get what I was looking for. Downloaded & installed (Game Fixes Only Mod 1.1) I would like to thank all who have given their time and advice in this matter.
