View Full Version : HoI IV
With the release date set for June 6, 2016, how many plan on getting it as soon as it is released? I want to, but have been burned on a lot of games not being released in a enjoyable version. With a lot of HoI versions, the AI wasn't up to snuff until the modders tried to fix it. Sadly, never reached a level of AI that was as good as promised.
I'm going to wait until I see some reactions from other players before I spend any money on it. I really do want it to be a great game, but going to be patient and wait to see how it goes first.
I'll probably get it later in the month after pay-day, same with Stellaris.
Will be interesting to see how the DLC progresses on this one, would be nice if they drop a Cold War extension DLC.
Of course, my ultimate dream is that when Victoria III is announced, they also put in EUIV to Vicky III converters and Vicky III to HOI IV converters, so that a continuous game from the late 700s to the 1990s would be do-able. :yep:
From the 700's to 1990's!?! Not asking for a long game are you Oberon, lol Would love to see Hunter do an AAR on that!!:haha: Still waiting to see how his Tunis game ends up!:D
Well, I got about a millennia under my belt with my Holy Britannian Empire game before an EUIV update ate it, so will probably have to start again from 1440. :/\\!!
I hope events or alliances will stay historical. The outcome should stay with the players. I used to hate to see events like Poland declares war on Mongolia or some other nonsense. Or Portugal forms an alliance with the Philippines, it used to get real ignorant in that department I thought!
I think that there should be some level of ahistorical possibility depending on how the player decides or acts, for example if Germany tries to bring Poland into an anti-communist alliance rather than invading them then it should avoid war with France and the UK and perhaps may even be able to create an anti-communist alliance with the UK against the Soviet Union if Stalin should decide to go after the Baltic States and then Poland. :hmmm:
You can Pre-order it now, if you are so inclined.

Have been watching the Paradox weekly streams with interest since Christmas. Have been very impressed with what been shown so far, so I'm strongly leaning to pre-ordering the Field Marshall edition. Brought HO13 in 2012, but never really played it that much. Though I am thoroughly looking forward try this one out. Am intrigued to try out the co-op aspect of the game as well.
I own both, mod both, and am a beta tester for both, so Ill answer each of your points and let you decide from there. I personally prefer HOI3 to Vicky 2, in case you want to take that into account. If you want a glimpse of how a modded HOI3 game looks, you can check out the AAR in my signature, which is from a mod using the FTM expansion. Its not as detailed as a YouTube LP, but youll at least get an idea of how it works.
I'll wait for a patch or two. Often needed with games as big as HoI IV .
Depends on price, if reasonable will buy, if not will wait
There is a wiki site for HoI 4, a lot more detail in this version of the game.

Preordered today for 29€ thanks to a vocuher on GMG.
Looking forward to it. Never really got into HOI III and found it overly complex and honestly... optically not very charming.
Will do a Germany-Coop with my buddy tomorrow. Call me GröFaZ! :arrgh!:

@NP: Same, never really gotten into 3 like I did with 2 which imho actually looks more appealing then 3 does :haha:

I was going to wait, but got pulled in again, lol Ordered the same edition as you, downloading now. Watching the discussions on Steam about this game, seems some people are having some problems. Some have said the download stalls at 12%, got by that ok.Next time it stalls according to some is around 71%, keeping an eye on that. Other people have said it won't start once they finish downloading, love the way this is going!:D One guy can't figure out why part of his map is a dark color, (might have to do with the time of day!) That's when I quit reading anything over there. Can be like the old IL2 fanboys forum at times!:haha:
Looks good so far. No manual, the wiki is the manual. If you watch the animated soldiers long enough, they will start smoking! That can't be good for the young players!:haha:

Played a few hours with a buddy. We send 2 divisions to support the war in spain and did well. It is now mid 1937 and we started preparations for the invasion, err "counter-attack" on Poland.
I enkoy the new interface, they really put some thought into it. Edition armies and divisions is super easy and flexible now, and rather self-explanatory. In HOI III I had never a clue what I'm doing.
VERY positive first impression!

Does the game still feature an Australian corps level invasion of East Prussia in 1939 while Germany is still invading Poland?
That's what made me shelve the first incarnation of Hearts of Iron.
