Does anyone have a fix for the Time Compression issue with 1.5 Uboat Missions add on with Steam? I saw a 4GB patch but that will not work on for Steam version.
I was playing the normal stock SH4 and had no issues with TC. Now with the add on (even though a great number of issues are better) the game gets laggy for me around x256 or greater.
It isn't a hardware problem. My PC is far beyond any capabilities of this game was designed to have available.

I had this exact problem although it was with the American Career.
Go at 256 and lags. Go way over 256 and it gets super laggy. Tried the 4GB patch but did nothing.
What I found to solve this problem was to do individual saves. Do not overwrite a save file. EVER!
So far it's working out for me. However, there's no way to fix your save file. It's become a bad save now. You'll probably go to back to a further save before the problem started or start anew.

Were you in port or passing a convoy? If so, the game loads up all the ship models thus lagging the game. Makes it a little easier to find when you're near them. If that's the case, there is no fix.

I went past plenty of stuff. 3 ports, 4 convoys. It did clear up again after I ended the patrol. Does it always keep account of all those ships even if you didn't do anything with them?
I tried installing the 4GB patch, but it didn't like the Steam directory.

Although it may be the future of PC gaming, I'm glad I don't use Steam .... yet : )
Is there any way that you can copy the entire Silent Hunter folder only - where sh4.exe is, and put that copy somewhere else? I don't use Steam so I don't know.
If you could make a copy of the Silent Hunter v1.5 folder where sh4.exe and the Data folder are, you could use Multi-SH4 and play the copy. Maybe put the copy in: C:\Sub_Games\Silent Hunter. Then you could use the Large Address patch - or the graphics patch.
I'm guessing this is impossible and probably has been tried before. Maybe someone who knows will chime in.
Good luck.

The issue with the Time Compression bug has absolutely nothing to do with Steam. The game design itself has an issue with save overwrites that produce corrupted save files. As the other poster above stated... NEVER overwrite a saved game. ALWAYS save to a new name and delete older names in a timely manner. Once deleted you can then reuse the name if you like the next time you save the game.
FYI... I'm using the Steam version and had this bug... Stopped overwriting saves several weeks ago and have not had a corrupted save since.
Also, if you search around... someone somewhere posted info on how to fix the file that has been corrupted that messed up your compression algorithms... something to do with a text file that has a time compression section in it that for some reason lost the time compression section information.
The idea of copying a Steam version of the game elsewhere and playing it does not work. That is part of the Steam DRM that you do have to accept when you purchase games via Steam.
edit... couldn't find the thread but I found a file that has the time compression section in it. Located in My Documents/SH4/data/cfg... named main.cfg
It should look something like this in the first three sections (there's more sections but the info below is what you're interested in). If your [TIME COMPRESSION] section is flawed or missing you might try using notepad to copy/paste the appropriate info below into the main.cfg file and see if that fixes it... Be sure to save a copy of the main.cfg file elsewhere before you attempt this just in case it bombs.

Thanks I will not overwrite saved games. Which I do now all the time.
I didn't mean to imply that Steam is the cause of the TC issue. It isn't. I only said that the "4GB patch" can't be used on a Steam file directory for some reason.
