Is there stats on the ships available somewhere more than just what the manual provides? Like HPs?

The reason I ask is because I lucked upon a Battleship group that just happened to put me in perfect firing position about 20 degrees in front of the group heading straight at my sub.

It was a very clean shot and I took it out at 4200 at hit it with all 4 of my MK14 torpedoes on its starboard side all along its forward cannons and just below its control tower. (Only set them to run at a depth of 20ft on contact because I was worried they would run too deep)

It started a small fire in the canon area and slowed the Battleship down but it didn't sink her. So I played cat and mouse games with the escorts running under the rest of the ships in the Task Force to avoid them and lined up another shot and fired 1 torpedo into her portside near the engines.

Still nothing. She is slowed but isn't sinking. I am now out of torpedoes because that wasn't the first encounter I had on this patrol.

After escaping the escorts. I have been following her as the rest of the Task Force speeds away and is leaving the wounded Battleship behind. I am contemplating trying to finish it at long, long range with my deck gun, but is it even worth it?

How much damage do these things take I have already put 5 fish into her so I would have thought the Battleship would be going down into the ocean by now.

For info on the Fuso class BBs, check out the Imperial Japanese Navy link below my sig. Scroll through until you see Battleships.

If you damaged the BB and the rest of the task force is leaving her behind, just trail the ship until you can get a clear shot and finish her off submerged. Surfacing to engage a BB with your deckgun would be suicide. The ship is only damaged and will fire at you if you give her a target. :yeah:

Trying to finish off a battleship, one of the most heavily armored and heavily armed type of ships ever to sail the seven seas with your deck gun would be like fighting a polar bear with plastic spoon.:rotfl2: I do not know where you have pulled such an insane idea from but perhaps you are just new to submarine simulations. Engaging it at range won't help you because 14" battleship shells have a range of around 21km, not only that but 5" HE deck gun shells would do no damage to the hull of the ship.

But if you're willing to try it, just remember it has 12 of those 14" guns along with dozens of smaller caliber secondary guns. Not to mention is 12-9" belt armor.

Is that in game behavior or just real life behavior? So the game not allow the HE shells to do any damage to the Battleship?

It is night and crescent moon with a little bit of fog on the water. I can see it up to 9k away. I have fired off a few pop shoots and can engage it between 8k-6.5k with no real response from the Battleship guns when I get a hit (I am guessing they can't see me). If I move any closer they start firing back. I crap ton of rounds!! All at the same time. Almost lost the sub with that barrage....lol

I thought is was flairs at first. But I was wrong those were not flairs.

It is both in game and real life behavior.

Lol finally sunk it. It took of a some time to come up with the right strategy but I finally finished that Battleship off with my deck gun.

I had to maintain a distance of 7500 moving backwards at 1/3 speed finding range using HE shells then switching to AP shells once locked on distance.

I only had 3 shots left when I started with all of them, but I got it. :D

That's certainly reason for celebration. :Kaleun_Cheers:
I have to ask, did you get any screenshots or video of your battle? I'd imagine I'd get a good laugh out of the tomfoolery in them.

Yeah, for whatever reason the AI doesn't engage with guns outside ~7500m. They almost certainly saw you and had several thousand pounds of shells aimed dead at you, but have a max range for all guns that is well shorter than a player's ability to score hits with the deck gun. It's like some designer decided that no gun would or should be used at a target 4km away. I suspect that it was base on the max range of the smallest gun, since all main guns in the game have the same range. Antiaircraft have a shorter range, ~ 1500m

Rather a shame the game does not properly handle this, especially with all the rest of the attention to realistic detail that is built in to the design. I'm rather disappointed to read this gamey issue is in the game. Fortunately, as a player personal preference, I can decide to handle it in the historic way it should be handled and stay under water until dark or slink away under water a lot further simulating the actual threat those battleship guns should be. I know I would never like to have the tonnage from a battleship kill credited to my career in such a gamey manner.

Well it is my opinion that the Battleship should have gone down into the bottom of the ocean after I put 5 torpedoes into her sides and she was burning for a day and half and taking on water, as it listed over on its side. There were no additional explosions from those fires. If that would have been a real battleship it would have caused the ammo to start exploding due to fires burning that long right at that location.

Now that fact that the rest of the Task Force abandoned the wounded battleship was pretty unrealistic as well.

I couldn't just let the kill not go down if I had a chance at all of finishing her off. :arrgh!:

But regardless I had to delete that saved career when I upgraded to 1.5. :wah:
