Salmon Class Crush Depth

Ok, trying to figure this out. It says that the crush depth for the Salmon Class is 250ft. However, ever time I dive down to below 150ft my sub begins taking damage at a astronomical level and is sunk.

My submarine has no prior damage so what gives with the 150ft crush depth when it says 250ft crush depth?

Something is wrong here..... Have you seen any action since you departed on patrol - been shot at, DC'd, or other ASW?

The 250' sounds more like Test Depth, not Crush Depth, and you should be able to safely go at least 1/3 deeper than 250' - say 80' - so 330' for sure.

Are you sure your depth gauge is measuring in feet and not in meters ?
Have you suffered any prior damage or in other words is your hull integrity 100% ?
Are you located in shallow waters?


BTW 250ft (~75m) is the test depth not the crush depth.

In deep waters over 3000ft. Only was attacked once by a aircraft but no damage was ever recorded. Nothing showed damage. I have everything in Imperial measurements.

Yup I just don't understand it, because just under what the gauges are telling me is 150ft, I start taking damage. It isn't a mine because it happens regardless of course. I have rerun a save 5 times and it happens ever time. My only conclusion is that that my ships test depth is wrong or the game thinks my sub is damaged but I have no damage reported.

I am in Career mode. Is it possible to carry over damage from one patrol to another patrol?

For some reason damage doesn't always make it to the hull integrity meter. The aircraft attack explains your boats symptoms.

I think the damage meter was put in as an afterthought and all the 'wiring' wasn't hooked up. - I've read numerous reports like yours over the years and because of this I never look at it.

Sorry.... If it's any consolation, the real boats didn't have a meter like the one in SH4.

Ok thanks for the response. It would just be nice to know if your boats integrity had been compromised prior to attempting to dive deep. Good thing I save often! :)

I guess I needed some crew to tell their captain that Sir there are bullet holes in the hull filled in with slapped together patch work pieces as best we could, but you might not want to dive too deep.
