I have to confess that I have a thing for Paris. I've never been there and have formed my romantic sense of the place entirely through the media: through films such as The Bourne Identity, Taken, Moulin Rouge and, more recently, Ratatouille and Hugo.

And I was simply blown away by the PC game The Saboteur, which allows you to roam freely across the boulevards, iconic tourist locations and rooftops of a partly fictionalised wartime Paris (you can even swim in the Seine if you wish, or take the escalator to the top of the Eiffel Tower!)

In what ways does the city of Paris touch on you and your senses? Perhaps you even live there? In what other movies has the city been cast in the lead role? Is it really as beautiful as it is portrayed?

Maybe I'm nuts:cool:, but it's never been a destination city for me.

Same here, many other places to see, but I must admit, I prefer open spaces.:yep:

If I was to go, I think the boulevards, rooftops and iconic tourist destinations would probably fade in contrast to foreground objects. :hmm2:

I enjoyed Edinburgh more than Paris.

I'd like to see Dubrovnik, http://newmedia.thomson.co.uk/live/vol/2/b86707fe62deaa0d3c56835c2b4557fe29dafee2/1080x608/web/EUROPEMEDITERRANEANCROATIACROATIADES_001505DUBROVN IKRES_000465.jpghopefully it was too damaged by war?

I had some work related issue in Paris 1989. I really liked it. I felt the spirit of Paris and people were friendly.:)

No language barrier? That's what putts me off the most about France. A lot of people simply don't want to speak a foreign language.:88)

Youre right about that language barrier in France based partly of a kind a national arrogance. But if you even try to speak some french, it helps a lot for the frenchmen to suddenly know some english.

I know and love this little cartoon movie "Ratatouille", too, its charming, funny, beautiful, but if Paris is your thing, you owe it to yourself to watch another movie by a guy whose movies usually do not make me jump off my seat, Woody Allen: "Midnight in Paris". So enchanting that I had two or three tears of disbelief in my eyes. Fantastic movie!

Nominated for the 2012 Oscars for Best Director, Best Art Direction, Best Picture and Best Writing/Original Screenplay, winning in the last category.

Based on personal experiences I'd tend to agree but some of the sites are still well worthy of a visit.

Any damage has been already repaired in the past 2 decades.
Considering the prices of anything there they probably retilled any damaged roofs with gold slabs.

Personaly for the Adriatic I'd preffer renting a boat and sail among the islands of Croatia and Rovinj second.

Dubrovnik is still a possibility this year but higher on my list than that of the wifes.

Out of all the captial cities I visited during my trip to Europe back in 2010 (not that I visited that many mind you) I felt Paris was overrated, Berlin was nice but had something of a tourist trap feeling to it although the Underworld tour was very cool, I liked London with it's mix of old and new and Amsterdam still has much of it's old world charm. You can check out the photos I took here http://ed12342.deviantart.com/gallery/38713421/Europe-Trip-2010

I enjoyed looking through your photos very much. I note that you visited the 'smallest house in Britain' in Conwy, Wales; my dad said he had a relative who lived in this house.

Thanks mate!:salute: I did indeed visit the Smallest House in Britain while I was in Conway but I didn't get to see inside it as I didn't have time to. But on the plus side I did come away with a bottle of mead:D.

Put Rovinj on that list.
I'm not kidding.
