Thought I would say hello to all since I finally registered...
I got SH3 in 2010 (I think) went looking for some info, and mods and kept getting subsim.com in the results.
I found SH3 at an electronics/computer store bundled with SH2...
At the time I was running WinXP.
SH2 ran OK, but the videos had some trouble playing on the newer PC.
SH3 worked great so I stayed with it...
When my HDD crashed I lost all my saved games, so I grabbed Fedora 20 and
installed WINE and have been playing since.
First Submarine game was the 2nd PC game I bought, and it was Gato, unfortunately
the disk was blank, years later I found another copy and finally got to play.
At first, before I found various bits of info on the limitations of SH3, it looked, and played
like an "Eye Candy" update of Command:Aces of the Deep.
Now I run GWX3 with a few mods.
I guess I'll end this long winded introduction now.

Welcome. You have picked up the heroin addiction that is Silent Hunter 3! Good luck getting off that horse. This is the greatest subsim ever created!
From the movie "balls of fury":
Master Wong: Ping Pong (SH3)... is not the macarena. It takes patience. She is like a fine, well-aged prostitute... it takes years to learn her tricks.
[chuckles]
Master Wong: She is cruel, laughs at you when you are naked, but you keep coming back for more, and more! Why? Because she is the only prostitute I can afford

Welcome Aboard! :sunny:
Don't listen to them! SH3 is NOT an addiction! I can quit any time I want!
I just haven't yet.

I've heard that admitting that you have a problem is the first step...
to what I'm not exactly sure, as no one has ever elaborated on the statement.
I can see it now...
*stands up in front of group, removes hat*
"Hi, my name is {your name here}. and I am addicted to long sleepless nights,
near misses, incessant intermittent ringing in my ears, diesel exhaust fumes,
intense heat, red lights, and the smell of gunpowder."
*sits in chair, puts hat back on head.*
