View Full Version : $300M Antarctic Research Ship Could Be Named "Boaty McBoatface"
http://www.iflscience.com/environment/boaty-mcboatface-could-be-name-antarctic-research-ship-after-online-vote
"If you want something done properly, don’t ask the Internet.
“Boaty McBoatface” could be the new official name for a scientific research ship of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) after they opened an online vote to the public to suggest its name.
Along with suggestions such as “Usain Boat,” “Boatamus Prime,” “It’s bloody cold here,” “Ice Ice Baby,” and “Notthetitanic,” Boaty McBoatface is currently the solid frontrunner. "::woot:
Pingu was another suggestion that's done quite well in the poll. :yeah:

The fall of a once glorious British Empire is complete.

I would have named her His Majesty's Turd Cutter, HM Turd Cutter for short. It sounds very nautical don't you think?:rotfl2:

Not very appropriate for the UK since there isn't a 'His Majesty'.

The name chosen is RRS Sir David Attenborough, most fitting but one of the remotely operated sub-sea vehicles will be named Boaty in recognition of the vote.

Well it's preparing for an unprecedented 1,500-mile undersea Arctic crossing.
Boaty McBoatface grabbed more than 124,000 votes, but was ultimately denied as officials were reluctant to give such an important vessel an unusual designation. Instead, the research vessel was named after naturalist Sir David Attenborough and its accompanying drone submarine was given the Boaty name.

Do you think maybe that's another reason the contrary British voted for Brexit?

I reckon that if the Prime Minister had stood up in the House of Commons and said "Boaty McBoatface means Boaty McBoatface", he'd still have a job and we'd still be in the EU.

I think that's a most appropriate name for the new ship. But will it be RRS Sir David Attenborough or just RRS David Attenborough?
