You think that's morbid take a look at this mummified sailor. He went down on the freighter Kamloops on lake Superior in 1927. His body still has flesh on it to this day do to the depth of the water, cold temperatures, and his location in the engine room.

If you're only human then you can be mummified... I'm about to eat my tea, so I'll check this out afterwards, if you don't mind.

The position the sailor is in I'm thinking it death came quickly. He appears to suffered a hearth attack that took him quickly. Nothing is out of place. Simply laid his head down and died.

I saw this the other day. Apparently authorities were notified as the vessel was adrift. The poor Individual looks as though he was sleeping at the table.

Agreed. Still, awful place to die.

Of course there will be some people claiming that aliens did it

What's so awful about it? He died quickly "with his boots on" doing what he loved. A far better end than slowly gasping ones life away in a hospital bed. IMO of course.

Well, I'd like to be with my loved ones when I die, but to each their own, especially when it comes to your final moments.

Apparently a daughter is a freighter captain WARNING to Tea-timers: Mummy photos: http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/mummified-sailors-haunting-final-message-7468500 (http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/mummified-sailors-haunting-final-message-7468500) He may have drifted since 2009; salt air and heat preserved the body. He had a sense of humor! http://i1.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article7468791.ece/ALTERNATES/s615b/Manfred-Fritz-Bajorat.jpgManfred was regularly active on his Facebook page until a year before his death. The last person to hear from him was a close friend, who spoke to him on his birthday last year. He was last seen in person in 2009 by another sailor. There's certainly nothing wrong about a 44' Sun Magic Jenneau blue-water sailor https://cdn.marinehub.co.nz//i/23543896-f9f7-4f89-8285-8d53eaad6175/stock/9710ps_img54dd91ff10c08-1024-678-Jeanneau_Sun_Magic_44-m.jpg

If he talked to a friend last year then he hasn't been drifting since 2009, unless he was the most uncomplaining person ever and that just doesn't jibe with the many Germans I know! :)

:DYeah that was from Wiki so not the most reliable source.... ALSO: Bajorat's death was first discovered on 31st January 2016 by the crew of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clipper_Round_the_World_Yacht_Race) boat LMAX Exchange[, who found the dismasted Sayo drifting at 11°38′N 137°46′E / 11.633°N 137.767°E / 11.633; 137.767 (https://tools.wmflabs.org/geohack/geohack.php?pagename=Manfred_Fritz_Bajorat&params=11_38_N_137_46_E_), about midway between Guam (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guam) and the Philippines. Clipper Ventures reported the find to the US Coast Guard (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/US_Coast_Guard)'s station in Guam, but did not bring it to the attention of the press. So Herr Bajorat drifted for almost a month more to within 40 miles of the Phillipines...the initial coroner comment says the body had been dead for 'years'...:hmmm:

It had been initially suggested that Manfred Fritz Bajorat, from Germany, may have died up to seven years ago after he set sail across the world.
His body was found hunched over the table of his vessel when it was discovered off the coast of the southern Philippines last Friday.
But, today, an autopsy report in to his death has suggested he may have only died from a heart attack seven days ago.
‘The cause of death is acute myocardial infarction based on the autopsy by (the) regional crime laboratory,’ national police spokesman Chief Superintendent Wilben Mayor told AFP news agency.

That's quite a discrepancy compared to the original estimate. Seems hard to believe but I've never seen a body in that type of climate so have no idea if it's possible for mummification to happen so quickly.

I don't think the word "mummified" was any more accurate than the report that he'd been dead for years.

"Moldy" might have been a more accurate term to use.

Indeed however the log of the LMAX Exchange reads 31 JAN 2016:
LMAX Exchange has resumed the Da Nang New Discovery of Asia Race after suspending racing at 0624 UTC following sight of a yacht that had been de-masted, drifting in position 11 38N / 137 46E. 650nM east of Philippines and 470nM west of Guam.

After boarding the yacht:hmmm: and communicating with the US Coast Guard of Guam, LMAX Exchange stayed on scene to examine the situation and report back findings. The team was also in constant contact with Race Director Justin Taylor who also communicated with Falmouth Coast Guard.
No other Clipper Race yacht is involved and all Clipper Race crew are safe and well. The team resumed racing at 0930 UTC after being given clearance by USCG.

As the boat was partially submerged and dismasted; perhaps they did not dare open the cabin as the winds were high and the seas heavy which has caused one crew fatality already; else they'd have spotted Herr Bajorat. This is nasty nonstop 50 knot wind racing so no lack of guts to even approach another vessel w/o colliding. http://clipperroundtheworld.com/news/article/lmax-exchange-update (http://clipperroundtheworld.com/news/article/lmax-exchange-update) We've clearly got a 30 odd day discrepancy here not just a week!:hmmm:

So they boarded it and then disembarked? Since the sea state was too rough they couldn't put her under tow. Wouldn't the standard procedure be to try and re-locate her after the weather conditions moderated? Or was it because the weather never did calm down enough that they could do so? Anyway, as you say, the month's difference does make you wonder.

That sounds more like it. A month in a hot humid cabin and anything organic would be sprouting all kinds of mold and fungus. I've seen old loaves of bread that looked just like that.
