HMS M33 a monitor that was built in 1915 for the sole purpose to bombard the shore close in, she did well and survived! taking just 7 months to build she was ready to fight the Turkish at Gallipoli.
Armed with two 6 inch guns this small ship gave fire support to troops landing on the beeches, it was a dreadful disaster costing the lives of over 100,000 men many of who were ANZAC's.
She remained on station until 1918 only returning in 1919 to England after which she was sent north to Russia to support the white forces against the communists of the the monitors sent she was the only one to return.
Shoddily built not trimmed right slow and having under sized rudder meant that by the 1920's she had become a dispatch vessel, her armourment removed she was given the name Minerva.
She completed the role and later became hulk C23 and she wasn't paid off until the 1980's she was then handed over to the local council who later on in turn handed her to the historic dockyard Portsmouth.
She re opened to the public in August 2015 100 years after her initial launch and her trips to the Turkish coast.

Another museum we have done in the same day yes that is today!
This museum is odd ball its not really a ship nor an aircraft but these vessels hover over the water, they are fast nimble and able to give you a good ride or a real bad day!
The museum features the largest civilian hover craft ever built the SRN-4 (the Russian Zubr is larger) which ran a service between Dover France and Belgium.
The museum also features many armed forces craft including the famous hover craft to take a trip into the Arctic (inside shots available)

It gives you some idea of size that door can on and off load vehicles much in the same way a ferry does but these ships hold the record for the fastest crossing between Dover to Calais 22 minuets 23 miles.

This is the SRN-4 the largest civilian hovercraft ever made, sadly two remain however thier future is also in doubt they maybe scrapped very soon unless we petition to save one please sign the petition to help us save one of them.
