View Full Version : What if this new virus Zika is the real zombie apocalypse?

This show was on CBS morning show and from what I understand if a person has this virus,
with no know cure as yet, and that person gets bit or bites from a regular mosquito then that
persons blood will transfer the virus to that mosquito who will in turn infect the next person.

A whole lot of people and mosquitos live in the southern parts of the USA ... what state will panic first?

Am I the only one that see's this is going to be a real zombie/apocalypse out break that the movies have been showing us
or will it all just go away as they find another cure for Zika?

CBS News chief medical correspondent Dr. Jon LaPook recently returned from Brazil, the epicenter of the outbreak,
where he spoke with the doctor who found the link between Zika and birth defects.

Yup. It's definitely the beginning of a zombie apocalypse. I suggest you stock up with bottled water and beans, and barricade yourself in a cellar for the next 10 years - and don't take any means of communication with the outside world, because the zombies will surely try to persuade you to come out by claiming that there is nothing to fear, and that they have no intention of eating your brains...

Symptoms (http://www.cdc.gov/zika/symptoms/index.html)

About 1 in 5 people infected with Zika virus become ill (i.e., develop Zika).
The most common symptoms of Zika are fever, rash, joint pain, or conjunctivitis (red eyes). Other common symptoms include muscle pain and headache. The incubation period (the time from exposure to symptoms) for Zika virus disease is not known, but is likely to be a few days to a week.
The illness is usually mild with symptoms lasting for several days to a week.
People usually don’t get sick enough to go to the hospital, and they very rarely die of Zika.
Zika virus usually remains in the blood of an infected person for about a week but it can be found longer in some people.

It's terrible what this virus does to unborn children, but as far as people already born are concered, it's common cold (especially compared to a flu).

No go on the Apocalypse.

As far as I'm aware Zika hasn't caused reanimation yet, but do let me know when it does.

Oh my god I have to buy tons of ammo to keep this people with minor cold symptoms who recover after some days away from me!!!

But just like the films, it does begin with Z :o

Well... To be honest... yes. Although you may not be the only one. :03:

Was it perhaps the similarity of first letters that led you to this conclusion? :D

On a more serious note, they may not find a cure for Zika for a long time. Viruses are like that, unfortunately.

The ability of humans to serve as vectors via sex is disturbing. So far it appears to be only males who can be vectors, with the emphasis on "so far".

What I hope can be made is a reliable test to see if a person has the virus. But in looking at how long it took to get a HIV test (and some still question its reliability), we have to be careful.

I want to say so many things, but then again, I didn't plan on brig-time.
le sigh.

I wouldn't blame Quattro on this, god knows what a factual train wreck that CBS piece on the virus was, like EVERYTHING FROM THE MEDIA TODAY !!!!

Yeah but that is quite the point...
And seriously asking if "this might be the zombie apocalypse" I mean... what?

No such thing as zombies.
Scientifically impossible. Dead organic material is dead and non-functional. But I guess that happens with brain-dead (no pun intended) shows like "The Walking Dead" arouse the masses, where you have skeletons that make breathing noises... :shifty:

Not through viruses anyway, parasitic organisms like cordyceps are probably the closest thing we've got to zombies at the moment.

I read an even simpler description somewhere why zombies would fail. At least the slow 'walking dead' ones:

Even if 90% of the population became zombies, the remaining humans would only have to kill 9 each to clear the lot as they don't breed (being dead). The zombie apocalypse would be all over by tea-time on the first day...look how many each of the cast of 'walking dead' have killed as the series progressed.

Now the turbo-zombies of '28 days later' might be a different matter...

Mind you, they aren't zombies.
Zombies are resurrected dead - impossible for many reasons.
In 28 Days/Weeks, the problem is a virus that turns humans into mindless raging killer machines, limited to the most basic functions.
Something like this may be possible - but is very unlikely to say the least.

So I'd say we're in the clear! :woot:

To put it in perspective I changed one word:

The most common symptoms of Zika are fever, rash, joint pain, or conjunctivitis (red eyes). Other common symptoms include muscle pain and headache.

"The most common symptoms of getting old are fever, rash, joint pain, or conjunctivitis (red eyes). Other common symptoms include muscle pain and headache."

I must have the Zika virus along with millions of others growing old.

Zombies already exist. Ladybugs are turned into zombies by wasps, so that they guard wasp eggs. A type of fungus turns ants into zombies, so that the ants climb up high until the fungus explodes out of their bodies and spreads.

Nothing to do with zombies.
Zombies are in every case reanimated dead (people).
