Has anyone read this book? Photo-essay by the Das Boot author. What was it like for you?

Yes, I own a copy. The photos alone are worth the price. Buchheim does a good job of describing all sorts of onboard operations, and gives some of his opinions about the Kriegsmarine and the conduct of the war.

I've read it, and wrote a review of it for subsim a few years ago.

Thanks for your comments Hippie Steve. And yes Old Man, it is a shameless plug to an excellent review. BTW, how did you know that Lothar was on Joseph Goebbels's (note the spelling ;-) ) payroll? Anyway, I am convinced. Buying. It will make a worthy and priceless (to me) addition to my collection of WW2 non-fiction home library.

I read it back in high school after reading Das Boot, the photos where very amazing given that some where taken while depth charges where going off. I thought it was well written and that the reader had a very good idea as to the regular goings on inside a U-Boat.
