View Full Version : SH3 Commander Issue - rendered skipper dead!

Hi
I've just completed my first patrol with a new skipper. Tonight, managed to evade an ASW and also two patrol boats. then got myself a convoy and managed to take pot shots, hitting & sinking 4 large merchants for some 44k total tonnage (one of my top 5 single best patrols)
I then made my way back to St Nazaire as I had expended all my torpedoes and stopped at the dot at sea for St/N.
I then clicked "DOCK AT: St Nazaire" and finished my patrol.
I got awareded 11 War Badges and Two Iron Crosses, which I duly allocated to my crew.
I started my second patrol and this is where it began to get strange. Despite having start at sea enabled, I found myself beginning within the Pen.
OK so I motored out and got myself to a position some 20km outside of harbour and saved & exited.
It was only THEN when I exited the game I found SH3 commander had actually updated my career status to "Lost at sea during Patrol 1" WTF?? :/\\!!
So I rolled back SH3 commander, and started SH3 again w/o SH3 commander, only to find this saying "DEAD" against my savegame.
It seems that after three hours hard work tonight I have lost all of this, and also I cannot now load this career again through SH3 commander.
Can anyone help me fix this issue, or is this something I've got to live with now and just re-start a NEW career.
Oh yes and in case you're asking NO I didn't save between leaving the convoy and arriving home :wah::doh::o:down: #MUPPET #NUMPTY

If you are using the crew or the career settings in SH3Commander they should only be used once before you start your next patrol and then unticked when you exit your game and it returns to SH3Commander.
In other words at all other times these 2 should be left unticked.
If they are left permanently ticked then you risk having your crew changed and a new captain being introduced.
It sounds like you had them ticked so when you started your next gaming session you had the message come up about lost at sea.
Start a new career and change the starting date to the next month and you can progress through the war, with different captains as they come and go.
If you want to cheat then load the game to the menu and select your previous captain and then delete your last game save. Exit to the desktop and reload your game using your old captain and you can carry on with your old patrol.
You can delete your new captain.

Hi.
Problem sorted! I ended up having to resume a previous save (which according to you was cheating) BUT, as I had not been involved in any action and actually finished the patrol in question, I felt somehwat cheated by the game myself
So I reloaded the most recent save I made whilst still out at sea. Luckily I had actually saved when I was creeping away from the convoy after firing the last of my torpedoes.
I then spent the next 2.5hrs trying to evade a couple of destroyers who were gaining somewhat limited contact. When they did eventually :ping: me, I got hammered and took a direct hit to the conning tower & radio room, rendering my radio man and hydrophones man :dead::dead:
The explosion took they're lives, but luckily the damages were able to be controlled and despite heavy flooding we just about kept the compartment from totally filling.
as I closed my session we were somewhere SW off lands end having run into the outskirts of yet another convoy! but with escorts around and a heavy sea, I was not about to use my deck gun to reek havoc, instead just kept them on the outskirts of the mist...
Thanks for your help tho! :subsim:
I think in future I may choose not to use SH3 commander, which BTW has updated my captain's status to "at sea during patrol 1"

Hi gazpode
Do'nt give up on SH3Commander as it is an exceptionally good application that will enhance your game play.
All you need to remember is, do you want to have a career at sea or have realistic crew movements?
1. Tick either or both the boxes in the game play section before you start a new mission/patrol.
2. It is important now to untick the box or boxes when you next exit the game or before you start your next gaming session.
SH3Commander lets you manage your crew where you can give each crew member a qualification. Although the sailors qualifications do not count in the game you will know which compartment they belong to.
SH3commander lets you build a personnel file of your career.
If you do not want your careers to update, or your crew to be changed by SH3Commander just leave the box or boxes unticked permanently.

Can you please help me by clarifying what options you mean about being ticked/un-ticked?

A rule of thumb with commander is 'don't change anything while on patrol' only change settings etc between patrols

Hi gazpode
Yes, I am referring to the game play settings in SH3Commander.

If you want to be able to have realistic career length then you tick the box.
If you want to have crew transfers then you tick the box.
You can have one or both in your game.
Here is the important bit.
You only click in the box or boxes when you start a patrol/mission when you are docked.
When you finish your gaming session and exited, open SH3Commander again and click in the box or boxes again so the tick/s are removed and then exit SH3Commander.
If you are going to do a test patrol (Eprobungstelle) do not click on the box or boxes until you do a real mission after the test one.
If you always want the same captain and the same crew then never tick either of the boxes.
