Hey there, been playing SH4 for a while now, been having fun but of course the meat & potatoes of SH series has more or less focused on of course, U-boats and Europe. *BUT* My primary means/method of buying/playing it is Steam, the online PC game distribution-service and theres a couple things concerning me. One is the reviews its gotten, seemingly mostly in the negative range. Two is evidently you need Uplay the Ubisoft gaming service. So before I buy I ask, has anyone determined a means/method to play the game without mucking about with Uplay? and is it worth getting or would i be better served continuing on with SH4 or perhaps geting SH3? Thanks

Sorry to bump but it seems like I answered my Own question  I bought SH3 and was....underwhelmed. The Camera system grated on me quite a bit. (what? No camera switch to nearby targets?) and crashed to desktop quite a bit randomly. I think I am going to Steer Clear of SH5, i've heard it's quite buggy and is 'trapped' behind U-softs Uplay-wall which is all kinds of awful. SH4 is quite entertaining in its own right however. Guess Ill keep on keeping on

LSH3-2015 I highly recommend it but like SH5 is not Steam friendly.
SH5 with The Wolves Of Steel mega mod is also highly recommended.
Uplay is only required with SH5 and that is not a problem in my opinion.
There is a lot of help on Subsim for any game you are playing.
I would always advise where possible to get a dvd version as you then own it.

Hi.

Yeah, so...I have the Steam version of Sh3: Does the "Supermod" not like/not compute with that version? I'm following step by step and getting no where tried renaming the folder its installed in. Do I guess I may need an actual physical/dvd copy of the game? That would suck buying the same game twice

Any help or assistance anyone can provide would be fantastic

Edit: I'm going to try to 'migrate' the SH3 folder from my 'steamapps' into just C:SilentHunterIII (folder I created) Probably wont work but near as I can tell maybe thats the issue. not very hope ful though

2nd Edit! SUCCESS!! (I think!)

3rd Edit: Erm....is the *supposed* to take a long time for the "FULLVERSION" mod to activate it JSGME? 'cos mine just seems to freeze? editedit: Again answered my own question, yes it takes time but so far so good!

Jon, for some games the only way you can play them is thru Steam. I'm not crazy about Steam as with some of them you are limited on being able to use mods. Even tho there is a way around to get mods working with SH3 on Steam, I would get SH3 thru Amazon.com. But that's up to you. Same with SH4. Both are on Amazon.

Steam keeps track of what you do and how much you play. That's my main gripe along with the limitations. Example. I play X3 Terran Conflict. There were some great mods called Cheats, from the EgoSoft forum, for it when played as a stand-alone game. With Steam there aren't any except for Albion Prelude and Bonus packages that aren't all that great.

Ya, I found a "workaround" I just had to transfer the contents of the SH3 folder from the clutches of steam into a Folder in the C: Drive. Success! :know:Much better/improved experience now, the interface is much better and more accessable. One question I do have: do you need to do any special command or anything when in say St.Nazaire and it has doors/lochs that seem to open whenever they please? Thank

I play X3 Terran Conflict.

Great game!

A few years ago, during a promotional sale, I bought on Steam the whole X series from X-Beyond the Frontier to X3: Albion Prelude. So far I have only played up to X3: Reunion, but never had probem using unsigned scripts and mods. :)
