View Full Version : trembling water
I know this might be an old topic, but so far I have not been able to solve it.
Modded or unmodded, just after getting some speed, water starts trembling (I just reinstaled the game since long time no playing) and I don't remember that has ever happened to me.
Any ideas or how to solve it? :/\\!!
Tnx!
What version? I've heard that Steam sells 1.3. I remember jello water except it may have been a modded 1.2.

SH4 1.5 non steam :/\\!!
Did you go through all of the steps in the How to re-install SH4 sticky Topic?
It should not display like that in an un-modded clean install. (obviously)
I'd try re-installing again unless someone has another idea.
I recommend using the Direct x 9 on the install dvd when asked during the install procedure.
If you do install again, make a copy of the entire game folder, and use the copy so you don't ever need to install again. Don't play the new clean install version. You can use Multi SH4 to play the copied game.
Does it always happen?
I've had that sort of thing happen for a little while, but changing views, or TC makes it snap back to normal.
I figured it was a limitation in the graphics card/driver, causing it to have spasms on (thankfully) rare occasions.

That's the thing, it is happening now where in the past it did not happen (using the same rig), it happens very often, sometimes it doesn't. Basically it happens at high speed towards the water (either of the sub of the free cam).
Do you mean at high time compression, or when the boat goes fast?
when either the boat goes fast or I use the free cam.

yea, seen it before, seems i reset the weather to clear it
I just figured it out it is the 19:6 ratio mod for OTC that is causing that problem.....:/\\!! so I guess no more OTC for me:nope:

That tells me it might be an engine glitch caused by forcing the view to be wider than the game was really designed for. You could try changing res to something else.
well.....I tried the game with no mods on, and it is still doing it, when sub goes all ahead flank, on free cam, and time comp. Any ideas?? :/\\!!

I done a bit of exploring on this problem a little while ago. I found the scene.dat file in Websters GFO to fix the problem. Works like a treat for me.
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=1196
but it is not compatible with TMO :wah:

You just need to use the scene.dat file only from GFO. Not the entire GFO mod.
Now just to be clear. When you say trembling water, you mean that jello water effect on the surface when you move the camera around?
Because recently I downloaded TMO, and that had rectified the jello water. I don't know why its not working for you.
I also used the scene.dat from GFO to overwrite TMO's scene.dat and that also works fine too. The file should be compatible. (Although, I should point GFO will change the shape of the water, but think as this as trial to fix the problem, then you can work from there)
Edit: Hang on, are you running any environment mods over TMO?
Actually, could you provide your entire mod list? The problem could be within those mods that are overwriting your TMOs scene.dat file causing the jello water. If that's the case, those other scene.dat needs to removed (or best, copied and pasted somewhere else incase you need them back). You can find them by going into Data of your mod files.

Yes, or when I move the camera around or when I am out in the conning tower at high sub speed (15-20kt), jello effect appears.

I do, but it its the improved stock env. for TMO. So it is compatible. Neverthless, jello effect is still there. I fully unmodded the game, I tried just the stock one it looks like it is something else. I did reinstalled the game and nothing has changed.:/\\!!
But I will try your suggestions!
Any other idea?
Thanks!:salute:

All good! I just hope we can have it sorted out soon.
Just so you know, the stock game has the jello effect too, so uninstalling it and reinstalling isn't going to solve anything. Also, it doesn't matter if your mods is or isn't compatible.
The issue is one of your mods is overwriting your TMO scene.dat file. As I said before, that file in TMO does an okay job of making the jello water less noticeable. If something is overwriting that file, then it's cancelling out the jello water fix.
Try running the game with TMO only. Nothing else. And if the jello water is gone or less noticeable, then the source of the issue is probably in that environment mod.
Edit: Alright, I just got home. Downloaded the ISE mod, there's no scene.dat in it. I should point out I have a slight jello effect too (with and without ISE) but it's no where near as bad as the stock games jello water. All I can say is the GFO scene.dat does a better job of making it less noticeable but will make the water look different. I mean tried all I can with messing about in the scene.dat files, changing the values and all. Frankly there isn't much that can be done to fix it completely. But try my earlier suggestions with the GFO scene.dat.

Struggling with removing this as well, but not until I found this thread and tried the tip from Delanski using the scene.dat file only from the GFO mod can I say I am satisified with the results.
Yes, the trembling is still there, but of all the options available, this is the best result achieved. Thanks for the tip, Delanski.
