Hi guys.
Apologies for the request - I've literally been at this all day and feel like I've exhausted all options for solving this unassisted. I must have reinstalled and followed the process below 7 or 8 times.:damn:
Summary of issue:
I clean install SH5 Gold (digital download) and download Uplay - both to a custom games folder (not C: Program Files)
Update to v 1.2
Start new campaign then exit game
I then follow (to the letter) instructions for installing TWOS
Update Main.cfg and career progress.cfg
Install TWOS mods via JSGME in correct order
update GenericPatcher.cfg
Open Generic Patcher and restore TWoS 1.04_Snapshot.gps
When I double click the SH5.exe nothing happens - the cursor changes to working/spinning but it just stays like that indefinitely.
When I open Task Manager I can see THREE instances of SH.5.exe *32 running - and I can't end the process on any of them (image attached.)
If I roll back the changes (remove mod etc) still nothing. Its like the EXE is generating multiple instances of itself when I run it?
If anyone can shed any light, I'd be most grateful.
This issue is like a steering wheel in my pants - its driving me nuts!
Many thanks. :)

Strange indeed... Did you start SH5 by desktop shortcut or with SH5.exe inside main install folder?:hmm2:

Hi Vecko - thanks for your response :)
I've tried from the install folder and from the shortcut.
The install folder gives the non-responsive behaviour in my previous post.
The shortcut appears to default to an auto-updater which then hangs (see attached screen shot) even after patching to 1.2
The game launches just fine from 1.2. The problems appear to arise after I configure the Generic Patcher / restore the TWoS 1.04 Snapshot.
The strange thing is the first time I installed TWOS it worked flawlessly - I even had a go at tweaking preferences in OptionsFileEditorViewer. It stopped working yesterday (probably through something I did!)
Clearly Neptune ordained this newcomer was being to be far too cocky for his own good and threw this at me! :)

Sorry to bump this, but still haven't resolved the issue.
Question - does TWOS work with Uplay enabled? And does it even need to be enabled? Looking around it appears there are workarounds, but would be good to know if the mod and Uplay can or can't work together.
I disabling Uplay is one of the Generic patcher options. I only ask because the only time I've managed to get TWOS running was with the Uplay browser disabled.
Any thoughts / suggestions welcome! :)
Thanks guys.

Mine works with Uplay and without, Though I have had a few CTD without it being installed.
I have been trying to get the tonnage bar to work but nothing seem to work with Windows 10, I cant find the OSI.exe in the task manager.

Silent Hunter 5 cannot be used without Uplay as Uplay controls the Game Launcher exe that you need.
This is basically a security device to make sure that you have paid for a legitimate game.
Uplay can however be played in both online and offline modes.
In other wards in off line mode you do not need to be connected to the internet to play the game.
On line is needed for playing with other SH5 gamers.
Off line can be used for playing individually by yourself.
On line will usually sync your game files to the Cloud and use these saved games to start your game and then back up your saved games also to your own saved games folder.
When playing off line you will be given the choice of taking your saved games to load from your own saved games folder or you can continue using the Cloud saves.
There is a box choice provided where you make your decision.
You can remove the Uplay browser from being seen by enabling a patch in TDW's Generic File Patcher but it is still active although you do not see it.
If you do this you cannot then get access to the OSi.exe in the task manager.
Uplay was up dated yesterday with some saying that the OSI.exe cannot be seen in processes now.
My OS is Windows 7 and it is still active there because I can see it has been updated from 4308k to 4320k.
Do not forget that your SH5 game needs to be loaded to the main menu before you go to the task manager and click on show processes from all users.

Hi Sjizzle.
Its a digital download (non-Steam copy.)
I can confirm that the game runs fine right up to patching with Generio Patcher.
I can load all mods and it still runs. The issue only happens once I've run the Generic Patcher.
The good news is that it now seems to run once patched, but ONLY if Uplay browser is disabled in the patcher.
Given the pain getting to this point, I can live with that as long as I'm able to progress the campaign without Uplay (hence my earlier question.)
I've done a lot of digging on why there multiple instances of the Sh5.exe are generated when I try to launch the game - its taking me off in areas that are beyond my feeble tech knowledge.
When I try to run the game it generates 3 instances of SH5.exe but doesn't actually run. It will create additional instances every time I double-click the exe. The other weird thing is that I can't end the processes - even with admin privileges. From what I can gather SH5.exe is calling on other process(es) that must be killed first - these are NOT Uplay services (I've already tested that) so can only guess its something Windows / OS related.
Just to confirm, the snapshot file I'm supposed to restore is located in TDW_GenericPatcher_v_1_0_168_0\Snapshots correct?
Thanks

Correct...
If so, then enable the "Disabled Uplay browser patch" and play the campaign if you are 100% sure that everything else is installed correctly.
Uplay is and OSI.exe are irelevant when it commes to TWoS. when you eventually reach individual campaign ending date, you can then use alternative method to continue your campaign (stated in FAQ and tips)...
P.S.
Win 10? :hmm2:

Hi VDR
Win 7 :)
OK so I'll disable Uplay and roll with TWoS that way. Just seems odd that everyone else can run with Uplay enabled. Ho hum.
Just for sake of thoroughness (and my sanity :)) can you confirm that the attached image shows the patcher with Uplay "enabled?" (i.e. patch disabled.)
If so, that's the state in which the game doesn't work, so I will enable that patch, thus disabling Uplay, using the patcher.
Thanks guys!

Confirmed...
Your issue is really strange indeed but if everything else work OK, start new campaign (It doesn't cost any money to try, does it? :) )

Thanks Vecko!
One last question (I'm worse than Columbo!)
Am I supposed to restore the snapshot file that comes with the latest TWoS patch (currently 13?)
So Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\MODS\The Wolves of Steel 1.04 - Patch 13\TDW_GenericPatcher_v_1_0_168_0\Snapshots
Many thanks!

It wont hurt to do so but keep in mind that in latest snapshot "Disable Uplay browser" patch is DISABLED, so you'll need to enable it again (because of your unusual issue)...:yep:

Update:
It turns out that I can only use a single specific cfg restore file.
If I try to use any others, or make even a single change to the file that works, the game refuses to launch.
FYI - the cfg file that works is the one bundled in the TDW_GenericPatcher_v_1_0_168_0 folder (in the root of the TWoS Megamod) - NOT those buried within the MODS folder.
Its a tad annoying as I'd really like to change the map marker colours, but if I try to tweak even a single value it won't work.
Its like the exe is getting corrupted when I change values fom the stock cfg file - weird.
When I change values, all I have to do is hit File->Close->File-> Exit right? I don't need to backup or save the snapshot then restore before closing GFP do I?
I may download the standalone version of the GFP tomorrow, just to see if that makes any difference.
Thanks
