Actor Warren Mitchell, who played Alf Garnett in television series Till Death Us Do Part, has died aged 89.

A good age, he was a good laugh as Alf Garnet, the archetypical un-PC hellraiser pensioner but so much more than that, a friend of Richard Burton, and a member of the British Humanist Association.

A lot of people criticised Johnny Speight for writing the character of Alf Garnett, completely missing the point that he was intended as a sexist racist fool, goading his increasingly exasperated family with outrageous pronouncements.
Warren Mitchell brought Alf Garnett hilariously to life with his acting genius. Bless him.
