Need help SH4 Steam

Hi all,

For a week ago I bought a new pc with windows 8, now I wanted to play SH4 1.5 from steam. But my problem is that SH4 isn't starting att all.
Can someone help me?

We'll need more information. Did you install it with Steam. In you Library, does it show SH4 installed? When you hit the play button exactly what happens?

Well it is installed on steam, when I press the start button, steam says that I am playing it but SH4 doesn't open. It is active in my computer activity tab. But I don't see it.

Try running the sh4.exe from the installation folder. Whereever you have the game installed. :D

Then it sounds like something didn't d/l correctly. Just a guess on my part though.

I agree. Time to uninstall and reinstall from the Steam control panel. On your Library page you'll see your list of games, some are grayed out if you own them but they are not installed.

Find SH4 and right click it. Choose "remove local content" and it will be uninstalled and the entry will still be there but grayed out.

Now right-click the grayed out Silent Hunter 4 entry and select "install."

Should work. If not Steam help should get a call. Generally Steam games are more trouble-free than the box edition. I know it was the way I finally got my copy of Unreal Tournament III working. I wrestled with it, then imported my already purchased game into Steam. They replaced my installed game with their download and from there on it just worked. Apparently Steam cares if games work or not and fixes them when they don't. What a concept!

Everything is lovely untill you get in touch with their support team.
Good god above, they are not very kind at all, and they didn't even solve the problem I had..
Really avoid them if you can :haha:
Although these are personal expiriences, I hope it might be different now :D

I am sorry for late reply, I did this but it still seems that it isn't working.

I had the same problem with Windows 10. After trying many ways to get the program to start I found an answer.
In the sh4.exe properties box, compatibility tab, I selected the option "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings"

It worked. Maybe it will help you for Win 8

Thank you that worked, only problem I have right now that my screen is 1980x1280. And everytime I start the game is being minimized. So I can't play. Is there a way to solve this?
