Is the snorkel enabled in the default installation of WOTS? I mean at the moment it is inactive but will it get active/enabled after an upgrade in the future or do i have to manually enable it? If so when would be a realistic date to actually have it? i want to keep the historical immersion but i don't know when it became available and to which uboat models

Hi NE

Is the snorkel enabled in the default installation of WOTS?No.

The Snrkel can be enabled by making a change in TDW' Options File Editor Viewer in the Submarine Tab.

Yes...Upgrade will become available in early 1943 and it will replace your deck gun...

Now i'm confused XD

Wikipedia says that Germany used the snorkel, as a device that allow to use diesel engine underwater, from 1943 (just like vdr1981 said). Can you guys confirm that?

Hi NE

I understand what Vecko is telling you in that the Snorkel is part of a U-boat upgrade at the correct time in the war.

You can however cheat and install a Snorkel whenever you want.
It is placed on the left side of your bridge but will obscure some of your vision as it is rather large.

It sounds like the one Vecko is referring to raises from the deck plates?

Thanks. I'll stick to the history, i just didn't understand why there was an option in the TDW.

Peter, since you recommend use of snorkels provided with TDW New UIs, do you have any comment on yellow footnote at the bottom of this post?:hmm2:

Hi Vecko

I have used the snorkel previously with a version of sobers mods list without any problems a while ago now but I have never tried to use it with TWOS as I am using historically correct upgrades.

There will always be gamers who look for something different or wish to add something different.

Sometimes it will work and sometimes not, our views will not necessarily stop them from trying.

No, I'm not talking about "views" and realism, I'm talking about game stability...
Can you confirm that adding TDW snorkels works OK with TWoS, even in the middle of campaign or when starting campaign in some CPU heavy bases like Kiel?

Hi Vecko

No, I have never used it in TWOS or would want to until the correct time.

When I enabled it I was in the bunker before the start of a new mission.
As I said I did not have any problems with it but at the time I probably was only using around 50 mods mostly taken at the time from sobers mod list.

Thanks...If you test TDW snorkels with WoS in various situations , please let me know the results...:yep:

Hi Vecko

It might be some time.
I have been playing for nearly 3 years and not been out of the Total Germany yet.
However saying that I am less than 6 weeks away from Happy Times with TWOS.

1943 still looks a long snorkel away.

I am using the TWoS Mod. BTW It is so awesome!

The date of my campaign is currently December 27 1943.

I enabled the snorkel in every type submarine available in the TWoS - Options File Editor before leaving port.

When I submerge the snorkle is not deployed automatically. My submarine [Type VII] only has battery/motor propulsion when submerged.

I cannot find ANY information regarding the actual deployment or actuation of the snorkel. BTW when I select snorkel depth the submarine does go to snorkel depth but the submarine speed never exceeds battery propulsion levels.

Can someone give me a clue?

Thanks in advance. :Kaleun_Cheers:

Speed on a schnorkel was 6 knots to avoid tube vibration and damage or rupture of the tubes....much less pressure ear-damage to the crew from wave strikes to the schnorkel head. Likewise, submerged speed on a raised periscope at 6-7 knots on battery power tended to make the instrument useless, particularly the attack scope, also from tube vibration causing unrepairable damage to the optics.

My submarine does show the Snorkel installed however it is never shown raised. I was under the impression that I would be required to press a button as is shown in quite a few youtube videos in order to raise the snorkel. That is not something I can find in my installation. I have bound a keyboard shortcut [edited the keyboard.cfg file] for the snorkel but nothing happens when I press the key?
