So I have been gone a long while and just returned. Installed SH3+GWX Gold and took off on my 1st patrol. War started, I cruised the entire east coast of England from the north east tip down and into the Straights past Dunkirk then turned and went back the same way. Not one ship was seen. 3 aircraft flew over but no ships were seen, I even peeked into a couple ports and they were empty. Anyone else ever have this? Is it a new problem?

I hate North Sea grids for that reason. If you have a Type II that is often where they send you. Early war, if you want a rewarding hunting ground, sail around the top of the U.K. and enter the channel that exits into the Hebrides. Plenty of targets there, but mind your depth and keep your eyes open for the ASW trawlers that patrol there.

I've never hunted there late in the war, as I assume it would be heavily guarded and your maneuvering room is rather restricted there.

I have to agree with K-61. Early war between Iceland and England is the best place to hunt. There are a few major convoy routes that run south into England through there. Like K-61 said, mind your depth. I have been caught in the shallows and got some whoopins' that I won't forget.

About 1942, you will start getting reports of Task Forces in the deeper waters between Norway and the English shallows. Patrol off the coast outside of Bergen and you will get some action (not always in your favor).

One thing to note is that starting out the war there is pretty uneventful until it gets closer to Operation Overlord. Once that hits, hold onto your socks because you will be along for a rough ride. The Brits really pick up the ASW ops in the shallows and in the Channel up to, and afterwards.

I have lost several boats to those darn ASW patrols late war in the Channel and north of Scapa Flow... :nope: It's been a rough learning curve.

Do you have the Atlantic campaign layer enabled?

I had a mod I never saw before enabled...Indian ocean campaign files.....could this have made everything but the indian ocean go away?

On another note I can not see anything at night...NOTHING...is this common with new GWX...never had it before. I can only play during the day due to nights being so dark.

I've heard of that happening.

I think it was said this is because the program is trying to go easy on your system by not populating the oceans with traffic that you will not see. Sounds like if you want targets, you'll have to go join the monsoon group...

That was it. I disabled the Indian Ocean mod and now I have targets. I also found a 50% and 60% night mod which helps out some with the dark.

My eyes are not what they used to be.
