First veterans laid to rest in Tallahassee National Cemetery:

Gerald Lee- Served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 through 1946. He was awarded the Victory Medal, the American Theater Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign medal

Samuel Barnes- Served in the U.S. Army from 1953 through 1955. He was awarded the National Defense Medal

John Wallace- Served in the U.S. Army from 1969 through 1972. he was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and a medal for expert marksmanship in rifle.

Carl Weil- Served in the U.S. Army from 1953 through 1955. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal

Fred Ayer - Served in the U.S. Army from 1964 through 1967. He was awarded the Silver Star, three Purple Hearts, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for the Dominican Republic.

Was just talking with the wife last week when this cemetery would officially be open with first veterans and what sort of dedication ceremonies, being the first to be accepted there.
