Greetings shipmates.
I've recently gotten back into SH4 and have it installed in a new computer. long story short, it was working great with TMO on and today it will start up but it stops signal to my monitor, just like I unplug it from HDMI but when I ALT-TAB out it comes back on (the monitor, not SH4) what did I do?

Welcome back! Need more information: OS? Hardware? Drivers? Where did you install SH? What source for SH4 (Steam or CD)? Too many variables to even guess at the problem.

ah, thanks.
I'm running windows 7 pro, 64 bit. I got SH4 without U-boat missions from Amazon, then installed the U-boat Add-on from same. they were separate downloads.
The game is located at:
[Program files (x86)/Ubisoft/Silent Hunter Wolves Of The Pacific.]

My system is a home build
it uses an Athlon 5150 quad core
I have 8 gigs DDR-3 RAM
a NVidia G-force 610 clocked up to 900mhz
Driver V 344.60

The Mods :
T.M.O (overhaul) 2_5
environmental 5.0 mod
REL_Trigger_Maru_
REL_Trigger_Maru_GFX_PAK_2_1
new narwhale K v 1.8.5
narwhale graphics support
narwhale T.M.O 2.5 support

Everything was working fine the day before yesterday. I cruised up the coast of Luzon and attacked several TTs and ran around from Dec 9 to Dec 17 1941, hours of game time...
then I come home from work yesterday.... no joy.

Sounds to me like it might have something to do with your gpu. I would suggest removing the OC on the gpu for the moment and see if SH4 will play normally with the gpu at normal setting.

One other thing I see and that is where you have the game installed. Now some people say it doesn't matter and others say it does. But try re-installing the game to another place on your c:drive other than C:\Program Files (x86). See if things improve.

One other thing and I'm not sure about this one. You have the environmental mod installed before RSRDC. I believe that RSRDC should be installed first before the environmental mod, but here I'm just guessing.

I hope you solve your problem and someone has the correct answer for you.

Thanks for your help. I'll reinstall and tune down the clock on the GPU, see what happens.

hey. hate to keep an old thread going but I have a new issue. I have the game and trigger running great (2.5 TMO). I'm experiencing a lack of deck guns for the fleet boats. now I know I've seen this problem happen to others but its a first for me. what do I do to get the deck guns back on the fleet boats?

there are AA guns but no deck guns to equip in port.:hmmm:

Have you tried doing a search of the forums to see if that brings anything up?

If you are running TMO 2.5 without RSRD be sure to add the '1_TMO_25_small_patch' so you don't get the TAMBOR class bug - the small_patch fixes that. If you do want the TAMBOR class for the entire war, disable '1_TMO_25_small_patch'.
Small_patch:

If you are far into your career you may want to jump in and hand edit with Notepad or some other text editor, the ActiveUserPlayerUnits.upc file in your saved games folder. I realize TMO has more crew manning the guns however the basics are the same.

Read Coletrains post #14 in this topic (better to read the entire topic):

It doesn't matter that his fix is for v1.2, it is the same concept.

Also neumanf15's has some good information here:

cdrsubron7's suggestion is what I and many others do, install to a folder off the C:\ drive.... not to:
Program files (x86)\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter Wolves Of The Pacific
Mine is installed to:
C:\Sub_Games\Silent Hunter Wolves Of The Pacific

Good luck & Happy Hunting!

Thanks. I'm not very far in the campaign. I started an S Boat campaign in early 42 and bagged a heavy freighter on its way into Rabaul and two DD's.
the deck gun works on S-18. :arrgh!:

this was very helpful.
there's also a mod called default bow deck gun That I'm using, it seems to have corrected the problem. MUCH THANKS. now the USS Shark has more teeth.

Thanks, Good find - wish it was in the Noob Text Modding topic too.

Mush Martin also had a nice Text modding Topic going prior to v1.5

Happy Hunting!

Never install any Silent Hunter version in the Program x86) folder.

32 bit games will always want to go to the default Program x86) folder.

Thanks I've moved it to the regular programs folder.

The usual advice is for installs to go outside any programs folder like so:

c:\MyGames\SilentHunter4
Windows Vista and Win7 tend to be very controlling about file and folder permissions, and this can cause problems.

I don't know for sure that you will have problems, but I just wanted to give you a heads up.

What TorpX and others including myself have said is really what you should do. It's your computer, I know... : )

I have the same Win 7 that you do. You are setting yourself up for nothing but trouble if you install to Program Files or Program Files (86).

If you are new to computers and a little bit unsure how to proceed, here is a simple little walk-through:

Click Start >> Computer and double-click the (OS) C: Icon.

In the Computer >> (OS) C: folder window you will see, "New Folder" on the bar of commands above the folders displayed on your C: drive.

Click "New Folder" and name it, MyGames

Next put Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific in that MyGames folder. (You may have to browse to find it). Browse - Select C: open that, you will see your new MyGames folder. Select it and Install Silent Hunter there.

After you do that, double click the Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific folder, look in that for SH4.exe and right-click it. On that menu that appears select Send To and select Desktop (Create Shortcut)

That will make a shortcut on your Desktop to begin playing Silent Hunter.

If you know about computers and just dragged the Silent Hunter folder from Program Files (86) to Program Files, then drag it to your new MyGames folder instead. I'm guessing you reinstalled it though.

Be sure the shortcut goes to sh4.exe NOT gu.exe or the game will try to look for updates that don't exist. It is better to just start SH directly.

I'm trying to help, sorry for the lengthy walk-through if you didn't need it.

Good luck & Happy Hunting Captain!
