View Full Version : How to start outside of "Erpro" with SH3 Commander
Something is not working for me or I am not doing something correctly. If I wish to start in August 39, I am only given the choice of the Erpro flotilla. If I want to start in Sept 39, I can use drop down thing in SH3 Commander [yes, the one for LSH] to see two other flotillas, but I cannot choose a boat. I know I can, once the game starts, choose a different flotilla, but aren't you supposed to start with the same name, flotilla, date, etc. that you chose with SH3 Cmdr?
I'm wondering if I messed something up with my last patrol. After starting the game via Commander, I opted for the VIIB at Kiel. Did my patrol, but when I exited game and went to Commander, I cannot update my personnel file. I get an "invalid code" type of error message. All I can do with Commander is manage my crew. Anyhow, I just deleted that career and want to try a new one again, in Sept 39, bypassing Erpro and start with a VIIB, or even start with a IIA but without having to do that training voyage into the Baltic, first.
Or, am I missing something, and every career must start with an Erpro training patrol?
Jus to clarify. If I try to start a new career in 8/39, SH3 Cmdr only allows me the choice of Erpro flotilla in a IIA.
If I choose a 9/39 start with Cmdr, if I choose 1st or 7th flotillas, I cannot choose a boat type of any kind and cannot start the game. I can still opt for Erpro and a IIA via Commander, but any other flotilla and I cannot choose a boat, the window is blank and if I try to start anyway, Cmdr bitches at me to choose a boat type, even though none is selectable.
I know I can start the game and then choose a different flotilla than what I opted for when using Commander to start the game, but from what I understand, isn't that a no-no? It seems for me that the game wants to force me into a IIA if I wish to start a career via SH3 Commander, and yes it is the LSH version I am clicking on.

Hi- K61
My interpretation so far is that SH3 Commander is overruled by LSH3 and I had the same error message that you are referring too.
The main menu is the hub where all is controlled from not SH3 Commander.
You should be able to select a VIIB from the outset.
Yes you have to do the testing each time you have a new boat.
I am pretty sure that if you look at the instructions which states that you have to select the Eprobungsstelle.
Have a look at page 15 and 16 of the v5.1 minimanual.
Eprobungsstelle seems to be the testing base that you transfer from to a different flotilla when your testing is finished.
This transfer should allow you to select any boat that was historically available at the time.
I have done transfers from IIA to VIIB before I cocked my saved games up and had to start a new career.
I have also transferred from the VIIB to XI9B ok in my current career.

Peter,
I just composed a long-winded reply to you in another thread, and the darned thing got "poofed" away into cyberspace when a background utility program decided to do system maintenance. My whole post just disappeared right near the end of finishing up.
Arrgh, do I really want to type it all out again? I am so ticked off to lose my work like that.
Anyhow, I seem to have it sorted out now. Let me see if I get this right, do I use SH3 Commander to start the game, or use the starter within the LSH2015 folder that was created on my desktop?
What I am currently doing is start the new career via SH3 Commander and use it to start my game, and then at the end of my patrol I save the game, award any medals and qualification, apply for a transfer if necessary, then exit the game. I go back into Commander [which automatically rolls back each time] and update my personnel file, manage my crew, visit the nightclub, then start my next patrol. The game launches and I then make any changes I want to my boat, torpedoes and upgrades, then go out on patrol. I am now ready in my current career to go out on patrol 4.
I did an Erpro-based patrol in a IIA in the Baltic, transferred to a new flotilla. Did a real war patrol in my IIA, got back and transferred back to Erpro to get a IX. Did a cruise in the Baltic [two ships sunk] and while at sea got a message to return to Kaseberg. At base I applied to Wilhelmshaven, and now I am ready to go out again on patrol 44.
So if I am understanding correctly, I don't have to use SH3 Commander to start my first career patrol, but use the LSH.exe to start the game? Then after that first patrol can I use SH3 Commander? I confessed to feeling confused; I am using Commander at present the way I used it with GWX.

Hi K-61
Losing that is so frustrating, like you I have lost stuff but only on the Ipad.
On the PC I copy to a word document if I am doing a lot as I I have lost stuff when trying to submit to Subsim.
You do not do a save before awarding your medals as this is done automatically for you when you ended the patrol.
When you dock you go to the screen where the telephone is and beside it is the documents that when you press you get your crew.
When you have finished giving medals, promotions, and the qualification you just use the back arrow on the left to come all the way out. so you can exit the game to your desk top.
There is no save as it is done automatically as you will see when you load the game again there are 2 in base saves before and after.
If after you give out the medals etc, and you want to transfer use the telephone.
SH3 commander you can pin to your task bar.
I must admit I have not updated my personal file in Commander.
I have previously when I was using GWX etc.
It looks like apart from the save you do not need that you have everything under control.
What do you reckon on the type IX?
You should be able to upgrade to a twin flak gun shortly if you have not already done so.
What a terrific display of available emblems you can choose from.
I am using the one for U65.

It is all coming back to me now that I have played a few patrols. My old instincts seem to still be working; I used to be quite good at intercepting convoys just using gut feeling, though I know there are methods of using the tools the game gives you.
I've been away all day today, just got home, and again tomorrow I will be gone for the day, and Monday my son and family are coming over for one of my wife's [Canadian] Thanksgiving Day turkey feasts. So, I'm being kept ashore for now.
It's a terrible thing to have your body in one place, yet your mind is trying to distract you back to sea.
