View Full Version : I present: Swedens new Artillery system archer
http://www.army-technology.com/projects/archerhowitzer/
The days where artillery were stationary is outdated or is on its way to be so.
and it's no wonder today there are weapons system that can find out from where the shot came from and sends anti-artillery towards the place where the artillery is.

I've read this for years, but if it is really true, how come terrorists can fire mortars and rockets at bases, and escape return fire? Like in Afganistan and Israel, for instance.

Well, mortars are light artillery. It would be a simple matter to fire a few shots off, pack it up, and walk off.

True, but I'm talking about artillery over a certain size like the old Swedish artillery 15 cm or the American 155 mm kanon "Long Tom"
Read somewhere that you only had time to fire x-amount of shells then you had to quickly pack it together and escape.
Of course it all depend on what kind of enemies your forces are facing. I don't know if Iraq had the equipment to "kill" artillery.

How many archers do you plan to procure?

This is something I don't know. I guess this system shall replace the other artillery Sweden has.
