I have successfully installed LSH2015 and I can get it to run on my widescreen notebook, but it has the ends "blacked" and is displaying as if on non-widescreen monitor. Everything within the display looks normal.

My graphics driver is up to date and I have performed the suggested configuration of the graphics chipset [AMD Radeon] and it is the same whether set at "maintain aspect ratio" [the default setting] or changing it to "scale image to full panel size" as suggested in the installation manual. I have activated, in turn, each widescreen mod via the built-in JSGME but every time I try to start the game with such a mod, I get this message:

"The program can't start because d3dx9_42.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." My 17" widescreen display is set at 1920 x 1080.

When I deactivate the widescreen mods, the game starts and runs.

This is very strange, but at least I can get the game to play, but without native widescreen display. I am somewhat disappointed, but on the other hand I can get the game to run, which is the main thing.

One general question about LSH: I notice within the HSIE options there are a couple of mods for NYGM [crash dive] and GWX [night vision fix.] Since I do not have either of these mods installed, I have not activated these two features, but have added all of the others.

Does this mean that LSH can be installed on top of GWX or another super mod?

Hi K-61

You did not state what your default notebook resolution is or the mods you are using?

The HSIE mod is also used in GWX and NYGM but these are not compatible with LSH.
The PDF that comes with the mod tells you everything you need to know how this mod works.

Peter, thank you for your reply and clarifications to my questions about other mod. As stated above, my display is 1920 x 1080, which is what I use every day. Following the installation instructions, I only installed the main mod and the widescreen mod and then tried to get the game to load and run; it did, and gave me the error message I quoted in my first post. By deleting the widescreen mod I am able to get the game to run fine, albeit within a squared screen with the black bands on either side as if watching an old style formatted film on a modern 16:9 widescreen. The game seems fully functional that way, but of course I cannot enjoy it as intended by the widescreen mod. I tried each widescreen mod in turn but no luck.

Within the normally functioning squared format display I activated a number of the HSIE features but have jet to play test the game for stability; I was doing this quietly during the night while my wife was sleeping next to me.

An idea occurred to me after I gave up but before I fell asleep: I wonder what would happen if I found and made a copy of that missing .dll file and manually inserted it into the game folder while having a widescreen mod installed? Would the game recognize it and allow it to run. This I might try at a more civilized hour. I have once again awaken early but it is too early in the day for tinkering. I will be leaving for church in a few hours; I wonder if a supplication for help for my game would be considered sacrilegious? :shifty:

Anyhow, just a thought and it might be worth a try later this afternoon, after all our expected guests are gone home.

Another question, why does there appear to be two versions of JSGME in the start folder? One is named LSH 2015 Commander JSGME and when I opened it it had no mods appearing in the lists. Is this mod installer supposed to be used if one intends to use SH3 Commander in careers? If so, then it would seem I would have ho manually move the mod folders to the correct place, so they will show up and be available. The one further below is called LSH 2015 JSGME. It was full of available mods and I clicked on the first entry to load the super mod and then procdeded to test my installation. One thing I did notice is that I did not activate the Patch HSIEV16bi. Not sure if that is important but shall give it a try.

Well, I have been dicking around a bit and can get the game to start in what appears to be widescreen resolution; the game starts and is filling the whole screen but I want to try the naval academy to take a sub out for a safe test spin with no enemy about to check for any visual distortions to see if I am getting a true widescreen experience in-game. However, when I click start in the navigation training session, the game is paused and I cannot get it to unpause. I try clicking on the backspace button, but no luck and no luck by clicking on time compression, either.

I have been searching for a page in various manuals but cannot find a graphic that shows the standard key commands in the off the shelf LSH2015 layout.

Any help appreciated. I've had so much progress since last night getting my old disc to install and then sorting out a few problems, and now I can't get the thing to unpause. There must be a keyboard command to unpause, but I can't find it.

All help appreciated.:hmmm:

Hi K-61
I was not aware of the 2 JSGME's.
Game originally had a JSGME German Language one with all the mods disabled.
I wonder if this is to do with multiple installations?
The one you want is the one with the LSH3 mods in it.
I would enable the HSIE mod.
I did not to start with it and I noticed that I had to move the WO to the bridge every time the sub surfaced.
The HSIE mod took care of that.
You need to do 1 tutorial (naval academy).
The navigation is a good one to do.
I think you will find that it says so in the instructions as it is all part of setting LSH3 up.
This will give you added renown points.
Start your game from the Commander and also in administrator mode.
You can just pin it to the task bar for future use.
You should see as the game starts loading that it states 16.9
Loads to the main menu.
Not sure about your un-pause problem.
With the tutorial you still need to have a career name before you start it.
This is all done through LSH not Commander.
Did your career name show as in the picture?

When you select a tutorial it should look like the picture below.
http://i58.tinypic.com/2dvipft.jpg
You notice that it defaults to Training.
When you press Start the Tutorial loads and you are in the Command Room.
You then just follow the tutorials instructions.

Where exactly is the un-pause taking place?

Peter, thank you for reply. I will give it a try. I had not entered a career or started via SH3 Commander. I apprehended that I first had to test the installation "internally" if you know what I mean. All I have installed is the main mod and the SHIE patch. The English JSGME is empty, the German one has all of the mods in it. I would have preferred it the other way round; I have a very limited comprehension of German and it would have been nice to have a language choice for JSGME, but hey, this is merely an observation, not a complaint in any way. I have been using the starter inside the folder to start the game, thinking that was the way I was supposed to test the install.

Just another side question: The 4 GB patch, does HSIE run that every time the game is run, or does this only occur once and then the .exe is good to go indefinitely?

I shall follow your instructions and give it another go and look to see version number, etc.

Good news, Peter!

By following your instructions to the letter I was able to get the game going in the nav tutorial under a new career name. All the controls I tested worked so far, but I haven't yet given the boat a thorough wringing out. Just enough to get my face wet and come back to report.

The only mods in the [German] JSGME are the main LSH mod and the HSIE patch. As the game loaded the screen read: GUI [4:3] loading, which I interpret to mean the screen ration is 4:3. The display takes up the entire screen, which is 17" or 17.5", can't remember which off hand.

Once in the game, past the initial loading screen, I see "Loaded by LSH3 Commander 2015 v. 1.6b1

Which looks like success to me.

If I cannot get any further progress than this, I will still be a happy camper. However, now that I know I must load via Commander even for testing purposes, I will now try to enable a widescreen GUI and use the same procedure.

Well, the experiment to get the game to start with a widescreen GUI is a failure. I did just as you suggested, starting the game with a career name via Commander run as admin. I keep getting the same error message which immediately springs up without a game loading screen:

The program can't start because d3dx9_42.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

I have tried to find this file anywhere on my system but with no luck. I wonder what this file does? I assume it is Direct 3D9 related and may originally have been installed by the game DVD, but where it is now, who knows?

My next guess is to find a copy of this file somewhere and then manually copy into the game, but I will not attempt to do so before further consultation here. I am simply saying that is a gut reaction, not that I will actually do it unless advised to do so by someone more expert than I.

Edit: I am now researching online about how to resolve this missing dll problem and there are numerous suggestions as to how to do so. I am wondering if the copying of the file when I installed the stock game from DVD got corrupted somehow. I am researching at the moment, but I am not going to mess with it until I speak to someone here again.

Through all of this, guys, I am very appreciative of all your help. Years ago I used to be a bit of a SH3 guru and helped others with their game, and even made mod discs and mailed them or other large files to people without high speed internet. I am feeling very appreciative now that I am on the receiving end of the help.

Eureka! Problem solved and game is running in 16:9 widescreen format. After tooling around Google and burning some brain cells, I searched and found a solution: reinstall the Direct X files. I first tried using the DX9 installer on the game disc but that didn't work, so I found a 2010 version online, ran the installer, used JSGME to install the standard widescreen GUI in the mod list and ran with it, and it works! Game seems to run fine.

I am now a happy camper. Much gratitude to all who have helped me through this challenging process.:salute:

And now if you will all excuse me, I've got an uncontrollable urge....

"Ja ja ja ja, ja ja ja ja ja ja... Got an urge, got an urge and it's out of control...." to play SH3!

Auf wiedersehen, kameraden.

Thanks, Pete. You were a real help.

I have noticed one odd thing. I used JSGME to uninstall the standard LSH widescreen mod and install the widescreen GUI with the classic SH3 3 dials, and when it loaded the screen said 4:3 and would not complete loading. I tried several times and each time I would have to use task manager to get out of it. Perhaps if I waited long enough it would have completed loading, but it sat at the same point each time without apparent progress. When I go back to the regular widescreen GUI all is normal again.

When I have the time I will experiment by trying the other GUI's and see how it goes with them. At the moment we have guests over so I can't really do it now. Just sneaked away for a few moments to post this, naughty boy that I am. Better get back before my wife starts hollering at me about being "rude." Will chat later.
