Hi Subsim
I just got the SH3 and SH5 games and have been playing them both a little now.
In SH5 I really like the graphic asnd the fact that you have to crawl to the deck to use the gun or binoculars and go to the periscope to use that instead of just alot of keybindings it makes it feel more real.
But I think it's alot easier to navigate the boat on the map in SH3, where you have the compas and speed dials with makes it alot easier i think. Also you have the crew icons where you easy can give them orders, like man the deck gun and so on, I cant find this in SH5.
My question to you is.
1. Does the running around the boat to use deckgun, periscope, map and so on in SH5 gets annoying in the long run, compared to just using shortcuts like in SH3?
2. In SH3 I can get the crew to do stuff with the crew shortcuts, like using the deckgun, tell me the deph and so on, do I have the same option in SH5 or do I need to do it all myself? (I cant find any crew shortcuts in SH5)
I can see I can get the UI like SH3 as a mod for SH5, and also some kind of crew shortcut mod, but I dont know if that mod just makes the crew shortcut funtions in SH5 better, the ones i have not found yet if they are even there, or if the mod just puts the functions in the game like in SH3?

1. I like being able to run around instead of just teleporting. You can teleport in SH5 as well if you want.
2. There are shortcuts. I believe F5 and F6 is for the deck guns. Pressing F1 will show all the shortcuts that you need to know :)

Hi Heschen
All the things you mention in SH3 can be done in SH5.
The question is what mods are you using in SH5.
If your mods include TDW's NewUI then your orders can be given from the Officer Icons.
Individual Officers in their stations can also be given additional orders.
Using the short cut key T brings up the various stations you can teleport too.
Navigation, I assume means without Real Navigation which is a SH5 strong point.
Many other settings can be customized along with the navigation settings when using TDW's Options File Editor Viewer.
Regarding the Deck Gun, you have this all wrong.
You can teleport to the deck gun to fire it yourself.
You can ask the WO on the bridge to get the crew to fire the deck gun.

Regarding the 3 dials, the OFEV can be set up to replicate SH3 and SH4 dials interface.
Either your experience with SH5 is limited or you do not have the right mods to get the best out of the game.
I currently play SH5 and SH3 and both of these I can highly recommend.

Okay correct me if i'm wrong :-)
SH3 you use the crew shortcuts to issue orders to the crew like shooting the deckgun, and in SH5 you go to the right person and talk to him to issue the order?
SH5 does not native have all the shortcuts like SH3 have, crew for one, so you use a mod to get the same shortcuts like in SH3?
Atm I use thise mods:
Open Horizon 2
Accurate German Flags
BRF 1.3 full
NewUIs_TDC_7_4_2_ByTheDarkWraith
Real Environment - Revision_3
Would you recommend other mods making the game easier to play?
mods hardly make the game easier to play
SH5 vanilla I was shocked to see how little I could actually do.
SH3 vanilla I don't remember.
talking about mods: for SH3 get GWX if you want a great ride, but it's not easy.
for SH5 I would recommend Wolves of Steel. all in one modpack. you get a lot of shortcuts with it. but again, it doesn't make the game easier. a lot better though :)
oh and welcome aboard :salute:

I am an old SH3 fan that finally has only come over to try sH5 in the last months or so.
I was really excited about the "moving around inside the boat thing" but for me, personally, I find that it has worn off and now I just time accelerate at 128 while looking at the map until my crew spots something. Then, during a hunt, I am usually on the bridge. What I am saying is I don't really use the inside of the sub much. It is great to have it but I just don't use it anymore.
Still playing SH5 with TWOS mod. Love those clouds and sunsets!:sunny:

Hi Heschen
I am playing SH3 with LSH3-2015
I am playing SH5 with TWOS that uses TDW's NewUi7-5-0
I can see no real difference in either of these two when working the deck gun.
Both have the ability for the WO icon to select the deck gun.
SH3 F10 takes you directly to the deck gun if you want to fire it.
SH5 teleport deck gun icon takes you directly to the deck gun if you want to fire it.
With SH5 you should not use the WO officer command to man the deck gun as the deck gun will not position itself correctly when finished with.
You have to go to battle stations first using the officer icon.
I produced 2 SH5 tutorials that explain what happens with each type of command.
As far as mods go, I keep banging on about TWOS.
This is the only mega mod where everything comes in 1 package and all you need to do is follow the instructions.
I have now completed 60 manual saves and now in the middle of my 6th patrol South Western Approaches.
If you are interested in doing your own mods package then you can take some ideas from here.

Vecko with TWOS has moved the game to new frontiers and is currently working on ways to eliminate faults that are still embedded in SH5.
With SH3 gamers should now seriously consider looking at another all in 1 package with the excellent LSH3-2015 version rather than automatically just going for GWX 3.0.
