Trouble, trouble and more trouble

Hello everyone!
I just got a new computer after years without a proper one and the first thing I did was to buy the Silent Hunter collection on Steam. Happy as a child I installed SH4 and U-boat missions. But to my massive disappointment there is a bunch of bugs. The voices are speeded up so they sound like smurfs or something (this was actually a problem with SH3), the navigator has an american uniform (!?!) and I can not get the German voices pack to work. I cant play it like this. WHen I first got SH3 back in the day it worked like a charm, but after installing it on a newer computer the voices got messed up in SH3 too. Sorry if I post in the wrong section or raise a question that has been answered. I got Windows 8.1 on this one if that is any help.

Sounds like a souncard issue as well as one or two others. try posting your video in the relevant SH section in the forum.

I agree that the first place to look is your sound drivers. They can produce all kinds of weird effects with sounds and video.

Thank you all for being so understanding and welcoming. I really appriciate it. Just for fun (not) I installed Silent Hunter 5 too. Low and behold, it doesnt start. Uplay messes it up apparently and when you try to start the game Uplay opens and crashes IMMEDIATLY. Now Im getting really sad. I spent a good deal of money on this SH pack. :( So, a sound issue you say? Hm, where do I start?

Try starting at your soundcard manufacturers website and down load the latest drivers and or any software updates.

Downloading drivers didnt help. Nor installing the game again. I just started SH IV to show my brother the weird smurf voice and american uniform. The problems were still there so I quit the game to write this post. Then I remembered that I could do a screengrab of both the uniform and a short video with the weird voice. I started the game once more but all of a sudden the voice was normal. BUT the american uniform was still there. So I quit the game once more since I took a screenshot. The screenshot didnt work, so once AGAIN I started the game. And all of a sudden, the smurf voice was back. Im losing my mind here.

Edit: The american uniform is ALWAS there. But I noticed that the one time when the voice was normal the american uniform had german collar tabs (?!?!). And now, as I said, the voice is back and the uniform doesnt have any collar tabs.

First, welcome to the Subsim family.

A few stray thoughts about your problem. Since you've downloaded the whole thing from Steam, have you contacted them to see if they can help you with your problems.

second, just for practical purposes, could you list your new computer specs and if you installed the games to the default location ( C:\Program Files) you might try reinstalling to some other folder on your c:drive. What OS are you using? :D

Could well be a corrupted download.
