Need Some Basic SH4 & SH5 ?'s Answered

!Hello All, I'm not new to modding games but I'm a bit noobish with the modding of SH4 and SH5. I have JSGME 2.6.0 installed on SH4 and can move the mod back and forth in the JSGME template. i'm not sure if I'm actually activating the mod because when I start the SH4 game I don't see any mod. So I may be doing something wrong with the mod's folder.
Last I bought SH5 Gold thru Steam but have not played it yet. I quess JSGME will work about the same on SH5 as SH4 so my questions are mainly for my SH4 WoP 1.4 install.

The mod I wish to install is HMS_Hood. After downloading I used 7-ZIP and 7-ZIP extracted it to a folder named HMS_Hood. so now I have HMS_Hood inside a folder named HMS_Hood. I will call the 1st folder -> (C:\HMS_Hood) the outside folder and 2nd folder -> (C:\HMS_Hood\HMS_Hood) the inside folder. My question's are:
1. Which HMS_Hood folder do I place in the MODS fiolder that came with JSGME, only the inside folder or the both outside and inside folder?

2. After starting JSGME, I should see HMS_Hood in the JSGME template and I then use the ">" to move the HMS_Hood folder to the Activated side, do i have to do anything else or is that's it for the HMS_Hood mod installation?

3. Is HMS_Hood a mod for SH4 WoP 1.4 or not? And if HMS_Hood is a mod for SH4 WoP 1.4 how do I find and play it when in the game?

4. I have SH4 1.4 WoP 2 CD set game. I see alot of mods for SH4 1.5 but don't see any patch for a 1.4 to 1.5 upgrade. Is there one? If there is a upgrade from 1.4 to 1.5 where do I get it?

5. Are there any Playable Ship Mods for SH5? If yes where are they located?

I did try to find the answers to these questions in the forum threads but could not find a precise answer to my way of understanding. Please help if you can.:confused

Hi!

Hope I can help you a bit:

1. Always place the folder in your MODS folder that has the data folder inside of it, so in your case it's most likely just the inside folder

2. Yes that's basically it, press > to activate any mods

3. As I don't know that mod I can't tell you. But it should be stated either on the download page or the mods documentation. Check the HMS HOOD folder for a documentation folder or a readme file

4. The 1.5 patch only comes with the "U-boat Missions" expansion. So you need to buy that too in order to get the upgrade.

5. Sadly I am not sure about that.

On a side note:

Sadly SH5 stock/vanilla is pretty dissapointing. It has many bugs and some strange gameplay. You'll need a lot of mods to make it satisfying.
You'll also need a program called "Generic Patcher" by TheDarkWraith which patches the game and applies a lot of fixes. Sadly this program can't be used with the Steam version of the game. So I would recommend getting a DVD version of the game if you're really planning to get into it. Otherwise you won't be able to fully enjoy it.

I've had SH4 the 2 CD version since it was first released. but its now updated to only 1.4. And i can't get SH1.4 to update to 1.5.
I just bought SH5 truough Steam (A BIG MISTAKE) and then bought a SH5 form the UBI Store that seems to function better with the latest mods offered here. I understand a little more about SH4 and SH5.

SH4 1.5, also called 'U-Boats Add-On', changes many aspects of the game. It is only available for purchase, not for free. You can buy it through Amazon, or from other outlets.
