View Full Version : Radio messages stopped TMO RSRDC

I have been installing and trying different mods with JSGME and now I have a list I am happy with, however I have noticed that radio messages about the war (fox traffic, Pac news) have stopped. I still get some messages that come through on the radio, but none of the ones like "Hong Kong has fallen", or "Enemy taskforce detected off Midway, all nearby forces intercept". The atmosphere messages for lack of a better term.

Is there a fix for this or should I re-install the whole game and mods afresh in case I screwed up something with all my JSGME changes?

I just discovered through testing that there are no scripted surface battles occurring.

Just hung around Savo Island on 8th-9th Aug 1942 and while I did get some contacts they were just stationary dots on the Nav map and no unit actually at that location.

Something is definitely wrong.

Have you been at sea for a long time?

I have used pretty much the same configuration you now have. You could just be missing them. Most early action off Guadalcanal seems to be at the southeastern end of the slot, below Honoria. The IJN resupply forces pass north of Tulagi, down that coast, and then across the eastern tip over to Guadalcanal. I haven't encountered the big boys until the October-November timeframe.

Hey guys.

I re-installed everything and I now have battles happening where/when they should. Still not getting "immersion" war news of battles/campaigns won and lost... cities fallen to enemy hands etc.

And the answer to torpex's question above? There is a longstanding bug in both sh3 and sh4 related to that. Basically, to save memory, the game only loads a certain amount of the campaign at a time. So if you've been out for a long time, you can go past the amount of data loaded. If you have been out at sea for a long time, return to port and end the patrol. See if that fixes the issue on your next patrol.

RULE 574 ... when switching mods I will always and without fail under penalty of sleeping in a wet rack do a clean install of the game and a clean install of all mods.

THIS NEVER FAILS

Hey everyone. Getting back into SH4 after a 4 year long break. I'm actually surprised to see the forum still has a pretty healthy pulse. But I digress...

I play RSRDC on top of TMO 2.5. I started my career (IIRC) in the Spring of '42 commanding USS S-46. I've actually managed to survive all the way until now (October 1943) now in the Searaven.

I think that I may have the same issues as the OP. It seems like the last news message I received was the first few months after beginning the career. Now I only get "flash" radio messages alerting me to enemy convoys/TFs.

I feel that I should be getting more radio traffic. "Manila has fallen." "The Japanese have been pushed out of the Solomons." Idk, I think we have a problem. I don't have any gameplay mods installed over top of RSRDC and my patrols generally last a little over two months.

Should I try to reinstall the mods with JSGME? And will my saves be okay if I do so?

Thanks.

PS: Also, who does a guy have to pay around here to get his forum name changed? My current name is something I used in high school. I don't use it anymore besides for here.

Nah, this isn't the issue. My patrols are fairly short and upon next patrol the issue is still the same.

We'll I'm pretty sure we are having the same problem. I haven't gotten any Fox traffic, reports from other subs, or anything besides "convoy sailing from Rabaul to Peleliu" messages. I don't think that convoys or task forces are spawning either because I haven't seen a single convoy/TF in 3 years of patrols...I may try a redownload/install.

I have figured out the culprit. After carefully disabling all mods, radio traffic resumed normally. After I installed TMO and the small patch, I got TMO's radio traffic along with that which is in the stock game.

After I installed RSRD however, I received NO radio traffic except for on December 8 (all of my tests had me starting a campaign at Pearl on December 8) and task force locations on December 13th or thereabouts. I ran each test campaign until January 11th, 1942. I should be getting dozens of messages by then, but with RSRD installed, the tally remained at 4.

Thus, RSRD is the problem here. That's very very unfortunate because I otherwise love RSRD. I can't think of another mod that I'd use to replace RSRD...at least one that is compatible with TMO.

For anyone who is curious of my mod list, here is a copy/paste from the jsgme.cfg in my MODS folder:

1_TriggerMaru_Overhaul_2-5=1
1_TMO_25_small_patch=2
LST_TMO_v2=3
no trembling=4
TMO Smoke Mod=5
Stock Map Icons=6
IJN_Radar_Fix_2=7
Webster's Eliminate Floating Plankton=8
Webster's Faster TC Near Land for v1.5=9
Snarf_WoodModelv2=10

***NOTE: RSRDC_TMO_V502 and RSRDC_V5xx_Patch1 were obviously installed during some of my tests...just not when I copy/pasted the cfg. Both of these were installed after LST_TMO_v2 and before no trembling. I took them out because of the radio issue.

I also made sure that none of the smaller mods were creating the problem. I had them installed during all tests and they did not cause the radio anomalies.

Could I simply delete the radio messages from the RSRD folder so that they do not overwrite TMO's? Or would that mess up contact reports, etc?

Any ideas?

I see the problem in the files.

Here is the messages.cfg file located in the TMO folder: (I have only pasted a clip of it, the entire thing is quite long...)

19420604 1730 19420604 2330 0 100 60 1 @CINCPAC@^...^&Pac News&[X]At 4.30am aircraft of Admiral Nagumo's 1st Carrier Striking Force makes strikes against Midway. However, the American garrison received prior warning of this from a spotter aircraft. This raid fails to sufficiently neutralise US airpower on Midway and so Nagumo orders a second attack against Midway. However, his aircraft are in the middle of being rearmed with torpedoes for a strike against the US carriers, should they be spotted. The Admirals orders mean that the Japanese aircraft must first replace their torpedoes with bombs, before another strike against Midway can take place. At 8.20am Japanese reconnaissance aircraft reported sighting the American carriers and at 8.55am warned that US torpedo aircraft had been launched and were on their way towards the Japanese fleet. While this is going on, the Japanese aircraft which had been sent out on the second strike against Midway, begin to return and by 9am had all been landed. Crews were now swarming round the aircraft with fuel hoses and bomb racks in a desperate attempt to get them ready for a strike against the American Carriers. At 9.30am the torpedo bombers from the Hornet and Enterprise found the the Japanese carriers, but by 9.36am they had all been shot down. The Hornet's and Enterprise's dive-bombers failed to find the Japanese carriers and so turned for home, although many ran out of fuel on the way. A similar fate was suffered by all the fighters on this mission.

However, because his fighters had been drawn down to sea level to deal with the Yorktown's torpedo-bombers, the sky above the Japanese carriers was left temporarily exposed to attack. At 10.25am a lost dive-bomber group from the Enterprise stumbled upon the undefended Japanese carriers. The 37 Dauntless dive-bombers plunged down in to the attack. With their decks cluttered with aircraft in the throws of being re-armed and refuelled, the Japanese carriers were in serious danger. Admiral Nagumo's flagship, the Akagi was the first to be hit and a bomb started a fire in the torpedo store. This fire was so fierce that the Admiral had to abandon the Akagi and shift his flag to a destroyer. The carrier Kaga was hit next by four bombs, which set ablaze the ships aviation fuel and forced her also to be abandoned. The Soryu was hit as well, this time by 3 bombs. These started a fire on deck amongst the parked aircraft and also caused her engines to stop. In just five 5 minutes 3 Japanese carriers had been put out of action, but the agony was not yet over. At noon an American submarine found the stricken Soryu and sank her by torpedo. The Hiryu, which so far was undamaged, was ordered to withdraw at speed from the area in order to save herself.

At 3.30pm Admiral Yamamoto gave the order for the Akagi to be scuttled by torpedo as it had not been possible to save her. By 5pm the Kaga had also succumbed to her wounds and sank. At the same time the Hiryu's luck ran out when she was spotted and attacked by dive-bombers from the Enterprise. Hit by four bombs, the Hiryu was set on fire from stem to stern and had to be scuttled by her crew. Farther north, aircraft from the Japanese 2nd Carrier Strike Force bomb Dutch harbor in the Aleutians as planned, damaging the islands fuel tanks and a US ship. US efforts to locate this force are unsuccessful.

19420618 1730 19420618 2330 0 100 60 1 @CINCPAC@^...^&Pac News&[X]Suppliment:|Test 9. X At 4.30am aircraft of Admiral Nagumo's 1st Carrier Striking Force makes strikes against Midway. At 8.20am Japanese reconnaissance aircraft reported sighting the American carriers and at 8.55am warned that US torpedo aircraft had been launched and were X on their way towards the Japanese fleet. While this is going on, the Japanese aircraft which had been sent out on the second strike against Midway, begin to return and by 9am had all been landed. Crews were now swarming round the aircraft with fuel hoses and bomb racks in a desperate attempt to get them ready for a strike against the American Carriers.

As you can see, not only are there FAR FEWER messages in this text doc, they also seem to be in a random order by date.

I'd bet money that the game is getting confused by the dates being out of order and therefore not using them as the simulation runs.

So...choices:

1. Delete text document so that TMO's is used. This will probably have adverse effects on gameplay due to all of the contact reports being wrong (because the game will be spawning RSRD's shipping traffic but I'll be receiving messages about stock shipping traffic).

2. Moving each line of code around so that the dates are chronological. Hint: I'm not going to do this.

3. Not use RSRD.

4. Try a redownload to see if perhaps the file is simply corrupt. (Doubt it).

5. Cry. Cry a lot.

6. Ask you fine gentlemen who DO have their messages working to post your messages doc from you RSRDC_TMO_V502 >>> Data >>> Campaigns >>> Campaign folder. This is the best option I think.

That would be awesome.
