Yep, he's real well known down here, about like John Wayne. A real Texas hero. :salute:

When I saw the listing and pictures of the ribbons he earned in the Wiki article, I thought of all those high-ranking colonels and generals you see strutting around with all that fruit salad on their chests. I wonder how many of them have done anywhere near as much to earn theirs as MSG Benavidez did to deserve his. I had not heard of Benavidez before this; he is truly an American hero and fully deserving of the respect shown to him in life and any respect shown afterward...

Salute, MSG, and truly, thank you for your service... :salute:

The fruit salad ribbons? 90% of those are for rinky dink things like completing basic training, or for serving x number of years good conduct, stuff like that. Now the blue background with white stars that's the ribbon for the MOH.

At some point the US military went crazy about ribbions used not to be like that but special people need to feel special.

Honestly with a man such as MSG Benavidez just sort of blows me away. I'm pretty sure I could not perform similar feats.

you might be surprised. Heroes thought the same, up to the point they were put in that situation.

Few people know what they are capable of doing in those types of situations.
