Man, that's depressing. I wonder if there is a real way to fix this. Mass transit, of course, but I'm sure China is trying. Also, what did everyone do for the two weeks the cars were not allowed? :hmmm:

Starting late August, Beijing enjoyed a rare string of continuously clear days as authorities took drastic action to ensure an azure backdrop for the largest parade it's ever held -- a showcase marking the 70th anniversary of Japan's defeat in World War II.

Hundreds of factories were shut during this time, while half of Beijing's five million registered cars were banned from the streets.

It worked. On the morning of the parade, the air quality index -- an international standard for measuring the severity of air pollution -- dipped to a pristine 17 out of 500, signifying very healthy air.

Excited Beijingers coined the unusually blue skies "parade blue."

But now the cars are back and the city is back to "Beijing gray."

It's become commonplace for some of us to pay for bottled water, but now in China you can pay for bottled air---

Li Keqiang a few months a go announced to the NPC that the government were "declaring war" on pollution. Exactly what that means is anybody's guess, and we've heard anti-pollution rhetoric from the Chinese government before with little result, so I won't hold my breath. Unless I'm in Beijing of course. :O:

Could be they've invented something that enables them to Photoshop the atmosphere :hmm2:

What? Do you want to imply I was bought off by big corporates to promote an awesome practical type of car that every family and person in our time should have? Laughable!:hmph:

And always remember kids: Your car will still drive without forests!:yeah:
And if you sign up now you'll get the diesel particle filter removed for free.:yeah:

Killed about 12,000 at its worst. Not a patch on some of Chinas big ones but London was a smaller place back then.

I'm optimistic as a collective whole humans are greedy so we will consume every last resource until they are all gone. As they dwindle the major powers will fight each other for what is left. Eventually everything will collapse it has happened several times throughout human history already.

Revelation: "and, lo, there was a great earthquake and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair and the moon became as blood. And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together and every mountain and island were moved out of their places." https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/80/John_Martin_-_The_Last_Judgement_-_Google_Art_Project.jpg/1280px-John_Martin_-_The_Last_Judgement_-_Google_Art_Project.jpgJohn Martin

I'm thinking more Mad Max. The lovely day is a post apocalyptic one.
