I just got the news that a good friend and past company officer had passed away today in a motorcycle accident. Max Hellmueller was one of the best firefighters I've known, and the best company officer I had. God speed Max.
I do have a picture of him gracing the forum. I forget which thread it's in.

I do have a picture of him gracing the forum. I forget which thread it's in. "A retired Lexington Captain of the Fire Department was killed Tuesday in a motorcycle crash on Highway 6880 E and the intersection of Lecta-Kino Road.
Maxmillion C. Hellmueller, 68, was riding his motorcycle in Glasgow with another former firefighter Tuesday, when an incident with a grader killed Max.
The accident happened around 9:54 a.m. Witnesses said that Max was traveling west bound on Edmonton Road, where he attempted to pass a Scotty's Construction grader. The grader was also heading westbound when it began to turn left onto Leta-Kino Road. The motorcycle was struck by the grader, throwing Max off of the motorcycle.
Max was taken to T.J Sampson Hospital where he died of injuries sustained in the accident." http://wlex.images.worldnow.com/images/8653982_G.jpg

That's the face of a man that could tell a few stories, stories that would make you laugh and make you cry. One can only hope his suffering was brief and be grateful that he went not in burning, nor in decrepidity but whilst doing something he enjoyed.
And when, oh when, will drivers learn to check their mirrors before they turn? And/or get those angled mirrors that provide a view down the side of the truck in that blind spot that motorcyclists sometimes fall into when overtaking.
Either which way, RIP Max and thank you.

RIP Max
~SALUTE~
Fair travels to him and condolences to his loved ones. I think someone who can call themselves a retired firefighting captain can be said to have lived a great life helping others. RIP

MAX
My Captain, my Brother, my Comrade, my Friend
We mourn with a broken heart your untimely end
We hold to the memory of good times gone by
And smile with tears falling as we look to the sky
For we know with God’s mercy you’re waiting up there
And soon we will join you, this I declare
My Captain, my Brother, my Comrade, my Friend
Your new life beginning where there is no end
See you soon C.A.S.
RIP my Brother. You will be sorely missed.

Funny you should mention your friend. Max's wife, Barbara was in Michigan at the time. We speculate that if she were home, she would have been with Max.
