This is a shame ! This game is not at all a simulation !! Here is the proof :

This is IMPOSSIBLE to be precise like this !!!

I stop playing now. I am not sadomasochistic.

I hate it when that happens! Is that LSH?

So, a simulation is when the game always plays out the way you want it to? :88)

Fahnenbohn, mate: The world of subsims have to consider that manning a real submarine is a multi-person task, and bringing it down to a "one-player" control isn`t possible without some adjustments. That also goes with the models, and the way they are behaving. All of the things that happens in-game has to be balanced between how real it could be, and the size of the end-product that you buy to play. Even in the world of flight sims you get pretty realistic, but not as realistic as a multi-million dollar simulator setup at a flight training facility. Sure, it would be nice to have a submarine simulation game sporting about 800 terrabytes, costing the consumer 40000 dollars to buy, but it would kill the excitement of playing. And, not to mention the realistic chlorine gas from the damaged batteries after a heavy depth charge barrage! :D (Canister not included, must be bought separately) :D
And: Remember, there are some AWESOME modders out there, who constantly improves each game! They spend their time and effort making the game better for you and me, and they share it without cost. :)

...and also to be fair, knowing how the game works, I can tell you that there's no such thing as laser-aimed depth charge throwers in the game and destroyers do not know how to maneuver into exact position to hit you with them. Depth charge throwers simply launch their loads to a pre-set distance as part of a depth charge run. You simply got unlucky in this case.

And why did he launch 4 DC (!) ONLY there ??? On the contrary, I think rather that was a real laser-aimed depth charge thrower ... Really ... pffffff. And in these conditions, some players are playing "Dead is Dead" ?!

No, that was not LSH but GWX sensors. And in addition, my navigator who doesn't stop to tell me "Wir haben wassereinbruch", "Wir haben wassereinbruch", "Wir haben wassereinbruch, herr Kaleun !" JA !!! Ich weiss dass wir eine Wassereinbruch haben , du Idiot !!

This game is a non sense.

:rotfl2:

I'm desperate.

As someone who's been involved with modding the game (including damage and weapon accuracy) since 2005, I can tell you there's no such thing in the game. You got very unlucky. There's no need reading some sort of design into what was just a weird incident.

Granted, there's still some pretty inconsistent behaviour in the game, but "ragequitting" because of something that the game isn't actually doing doesn't seem very intelligent.

That was worse before ?! What did you do to improve damage and weapon accuracy ? (that is an open question)

PS : This is not the first "weird incident", far from there !

Well if GWX has Laser guided DC's?
I want credit for those!

I've been rammed at periscope depth by a escort and survived.

I've taken a 5 inch shell right through the pressure hull and was able to dive to 100m and survived.

I've struck a mine at 50m and survived.

I've taken a direct bomb hit from a aircraft and survived.

These are all instances where 'in reality' I and my boat should be dead, but the game let me return to base. In fact in the 1st and 3rd instances I felt so guilty that I wasn't sunk that I sank myself and started a new career anyway.

So, I can easily accept the trade off that the game will occasionally nail me.

My curse on you, Jeff !! :stare:

No problem for me to be sunk, but in a realistic way !! :shucks:
Being killed in one shot with 4 DC on the head is NOT realistic.

Just bad luck. I didn't test all the supermods out there, but I don't think destroyers go intentionally to the side of you in any of them. They mostly try to go straight over the place they think you are.

Also, as people already mentioned, side-launched depth charges always fire at the same angle and the same distance.

Allied sonar in GWX can be annoyingly precise though. But I expect some challenge from my games anyway, so me likey.

As others said , you were just very very unlucky and that escort captain very very lucky. You were in the wrong place the wrong time. But imagine , being hit by a hedgehog weapon!
Keep playing.
It is only a game after all and take into consideration that it is a 10 years old game engine.

It was a random lucky hit by the escort, but I don't agree it was unrealistic. One dc, in the right spot, should kill you just as easy as four. Crack subs were sunk by random shots sometimes. It happens in game and we know it happened in the war.

My point was that the game, in my experience, 'gifts' you unrealistically far more than it kills you unrealistically.

Yes, AI in SH3 is very bad ... as in a lot of (all ?) other games ! We shouldn't say 'artificial intelligence', but rather 'programmed behaviour' ! And this behaviour in SH3 is really bad programmed ! :O:

Is this a screenshot from Sniper Elite V2 or SH3, I cant tell lol. I bet the Escort Captain shouted over the tannoy to his crew, "BOOM, HEADSHOT!" like I do when playing Sniper Elite. (Another of my fave games as well as SH3)

Hang on one minute though. Ive noticed something that could explain everything. Theres a second wake. Is it possible another ship just rolled them off the stern. The second screenshot shows the charges and that looks consistent to four charges rolled off the stern
