View Full Version : Yvonne Craig, The Original Batgirl, Passes Away

Yvonne Craig who found pop culture fame as Batgirl on the 60s TV series "Batman", passed away at age 78 after a long battle with cancer. She was about the only reason I really ever followed the show. I had a bit of a crush on her. She also made appearances on other shows (the green skinned dancing girl on the original "Star Trek") and in movies (The Russian ballerina in one of the "Our Man Flint" films). She was a trained dancer and a very beautiful woman. Her passing is a sad loss...
Rest in piece, Ms. Craig...

I remember her from Batman but never saw the connection to Star Trek until now although I saw that episode. She was very beautiful as you said Vienna . She added a lot to the Batman series. So sorry to hear of her passing.
Rest in peace Ms. Craig.

Not a huge Trek fan, but that is worth seeing again. :yep:
Forgot about the Orion slave girl. To bad they didn't make her a regular.

Yeah I read that sad news yesterday. She was one of the women that formed my youthful ideas on what the ideal female was so I just watched her Batgirl debut in the first season three episode tonight. She still gets me.

 That really sucks she was an awesome actress.
Funny story about the Orion Slave Girls, during the first pilot, the film-development department was initially confused that the actress (Susan Oliver) was turning out bring green in the dailies, and when they sent the dailies to be viewed by the crew, they kept correcting for it.
The crew, in turn, didn't realize the negatives were being altered post-production, and so they compensated by making the make-up even more green... which post then unintentionally "corrected" during development! This went back-and-forth for a few days before the development department was told she was intentionally being made green.

Ironically enough the green skinned "Orion " woman theme was revisited in a remake of star trek episodes. It featured original actors Walter Koenig, Nichelle Nichols and the Late Grace Lee Whitney and American film and TV actor Alan Ruck in his role as Cameron Frye, the best friend of Ferris Bueller, in John Hughes's 1986 film Ferris Bueller's Day Off. He forgot to wear his Detroit Red wing jersey though. :O:
