Hello pals,

I'm new here, to be honest i'm new to the genre but since i love simulations (whether land, air or in this case naval) i jumped in. This game is awesome, i've already completed all tutorial missions and manage to sink japs in the campaign.
That said i feel that it is not enough, my target is to be able to play with full realism or at least something that remind the reality.

I have a lot of question, so here we go.

I believe that before even starting to practice over and over it is important to create a consistent environment with all data(e.g I've saw on the forum topic about periscope/tbt inconsistency).

So could you guys suggest all addons that should be installed just to get proper data consistence?
By now i've installed :
- Bigger better proctactors
- Magnified HUD
- SCAF + MaxOptics

These are mainly to improve in game tools.

Should i install "Optical Targeting Correction"? Since the descriptions seem to suggest that magnification will be edit, will it collide with MaxOptics?

Supposing that i will receive a good list, my next question is bigger MOD changes. For max realism should i install RFB or TMO?

For last but not least (actually the most important), although i have some stuff, would you be so kind to suggest tutorial for these topics :

- Interception
- Range
- Bow (+suggestion to deal with zig zag targets)
- Speed
- Sneak away
- Anything else that is required but i'm missing.

After some research i came up to "simplified manual targeting at 100%", and "High realism tutorial", they seem fine but are two different method. Are they both used in real life (just curious), if so which one is used more frequently?

Thanks in advance

PS: metric or imperial?
PPS: is silent hunter 5 worth?

Thank you all.

Since my first post was too vague, i'll post a specific question.
Is there a range that i should feel safe to use sonar even with escorts nearby? I mean, should i avoid it when i'm sure there is an escort around even if they are pretty far like 16000 yr?

Welcome aboard FuriousEagle! :salute:
We're always happy to have someone new to tell our lies to.
Don't be afraid to ask questions, there's always someone who is willing and able to help.
Now to your question. The mod setup you want is completely up to you. We all have our own mod soup. My suggestion is to start with experimentation. Choose a super mod (TMO or RFB) play for a while, then choose the other. Keep the one you prefer, then start adding the other mods. Just remember, you need to install mods in a particular order. The super mod first, then mods like RSRDC and OTC. Then the small mods. You need to test them as you install them one at a time. That way if something goes wrong, you have a good idea what mod caused it.
My mods are TMO, RSRDC, then smaller mods.

Following fireftr's advice is probably a good idea.

I'll quote SailorSteve to give a short list of mega-mods to choose from:

1. Game Fixes Only, by Webster. This fixes most of the bugs that come with the stock game, while still allowing you to play stock.

2. Real Fleet Boat, by the RFB Team. This one attempts to alter all the AI parameters to reflect historical accuracy.

3. Trigger Maru Overhauled, by Ducimus. Increases difficulty beyond historical standards, with the idea that it's easy to figure out those standards and "game the game", so to speak. TMO makes you play more like a real captain, since you don't know what the enemy is capable of .

4. Operation Monsun. This one lets you play a full-war Atlantic campaign along the lines of SH3. It's the only supermod available for those U-boat fanatics among us.

Please note that these all require SH4 1.5, or 'U-Boat Missions', as it's known. If your version is 'SH4 Gold' then you're good to go.
There is also RSRDC, which is a traffic/campaign mod. It is usually used in conjuction with one of the others. There are versions for stock/GFO, RFB, and TMO.

If you are really interested in realism, I would suggest you read some of the books on the subject. There are many good ones, but a couple of my favorites are: WAHOO , by Richard H. O'Kane

CLEAR THE BRIDGE , by Richard H. O'Kane

Make sure your using version 1.5 of the game. Most well made mods require this version of the game although some have been written for lesser versions.
