What is the keyboard shortcut that returns the periscope to 0 degrees?
I don't mean the "-" key which sets the view to the heading, but the control which will center the periscope regardless of heading. I used to know, but old-timers disease flared up...

I don't know what you mean. Bearing 0 degrees is your heading.

I see your point of view" so to speak", just confusion on my part

As the 0 degree bearing is your bow, that is exactly the key you want to press. You want the periscope to turn to your heading. There is no key command to turn the periscope to true north if that is what you were thinking.

Well, there are two kinds of bearing: relative and absolute. An absolute bearing is a compass bearing. A relative bearing is bearing in relation to your bow, which is assigned a bearing of zero. For the game, you cannot use absolute bearings with periscope, TBT or binoculars. You cannot use relative bearings with your compass. The bearing dial on your sonar shows both.

Trying to figure out exactly what you mean and coming up blank.....:hmmm:

Look in the Support folder of SH4, or the Support folder of the super mod you are using - if any. The keyboard commands are listed in the Stock PDF and in most Super-mods.

In-game hit F1 and Help should pop open. The keyboard commands are listed in Stock, and in most mods that change them to the SH3 layout or whatever.

Not the NumPad keys:
= (equal-sign) Heading to View
- (minus sign next to = sign) View to Heading ........ 0d - zero degrees Relative - - not True.

' (apostrophe) Rudder Amidships

Your scope at 0d is your heading, so, - (View to Heading) should zero out your scope.

Edit - apostrophe
Edit - "- zero degrees Relative - - not True."

' (comma) Rudder Amidships

That's not a comma. Single Quote.

^This.

It is very useful if you want to change course exactly X°, for instance. Use the '-' key to put view to heading, rotate bearing of instrument X°, then use the '=' key to set new heading. Much better than trying to use the pitifully small, toy compass in the HUD. Works with either the TBT or periscope, and the scope doesn't need to be up in the air, either.

Three are two types of bearing, relative and true. I've never heard true refereed to as absolute.

No such keyboard command. There needs to be a "command" that is linked to a keyboard key in order for an action to take place. There is no such "command" to have the periscope return to zero degree relative bearing (bow position). No keystroke can take you there, nor can it be modded since "commands" are hard coded.

Unless you just so happen to be traveling in the true North direction and you press the "View to Heading" (-) key. Your view would swing to the zero degree relative bearing then.

Did you read the thread? Because that's wrong.

The answer is, there isn't one.
