In the dynamic campaign missions how long do you have to patrol around the star, and how close does one have to stay to it, before the mission is complete and I can explore more exciting areas?

If you open the captains log it should say. It is usually 150 nautical miles for three days. The star will turn grey when the time is done. Once that happens you may send a patrol report and get new orders.

Ahoy use ur compass and from the center of the star draw a circle 50nm. Stay within the circle and patrol for 72hrs. Happy huntin

If my orders don't state the radius, I assume it to be 100 nm, but that is just my guess. I play RSRDC.

It can very from 50 nm to 150 nm. I normal ignore the orders and partol where I please. Mission objectives are not as important as tonnage to the renown system of the game.

I can ignore the mission updates without penalty?

Thank you. :salute:

Usually as you approach it, you will get a radio message telling you orders. I use that as the mark not to go out of.

I'm playing TMO/RSRDC. In my limited experience, time is 48-96 hours and radius from center is 50-150nm. Each mission is different. You'll know when the star changes color from gold to gray and you may receive new orders.

AFAIK if you ignore the mission objectives then you cannot progress to the next mission until you complete your first mission and so you will get orders to repeat your original mission again.

also if you leave the area it will reset the clock and your time starts all over again.

often you wait out your time with nothing to shoot, then after objective is completed you can go get your tonnage somewhere else

there are also some objectives to reach a certain point by a certain time and if you miss the window you must redo the mission again. this can often happen by stopping short thinking you are on your spot yet you might be 60 miles outside the spot when you must be 50 or less. you will also get there late sometimes and miss or not even see your intended targets that have already left the area

I've completed two mission objectives and just got a third that I'm currently ignoring. Do the objectives randomly spawn or is there a set number that you have to complete before returning to port?

Nah, the game will pretty much keep giving them to you until you stop asking for them. There is a random chance of getting "no new orders at this time" but whatever.

You are better off taking the mission objectives with a grain of salt. I will make a good-faith attempt to fulfill one or maybe two, but not if they don't make any sense, or are suicidal (like the recon ones). There is no penalty for not doing them.

Honestly I tend to ignore the objectives, especially when i'm using TMO+RSRDC and I can get to the site of a major battle instead. That's how I bagged both of the Y's in the Sibuyan Sea one time and was able to bag one of the Myōkō's following Surigao Strait all in the same patrol.

AFAIK, completing the actual mission objectives doesn't give you any reward, so I usually hang around the area for a few days, or incorporate the assigned area into a larger patrol route.
The special mission types, such as troops insertions I always work to complete, then when I receive new orders I proceed as usual.

I tend to do the same as some. I hang around the star and sometimes just sit still under water because sitting still on the surface will use diesel. When the star changes I just move on to where I really want to patrol or see what they pop up next.
