SH5 disk help please

So I currently use the SH5 Steam Gold edition but I have a lot of problems with it. I've heard that the retail version is a little better, at least with less crashes so I was thinking of getting it but I have some questions. First is that that the Steam version is called the Gold edition and the disk only seems to be regular. Now if I get the disk would there be any noticeable lack of content (at least that would be important) or would it work to download a non-steam version or would that still have the extra problems? The two main problems I have been experiencing is of course the crash bugs but also this really annoying one where the tonnage bar on the map just does not fill even when I am sure I am in the correct area. Would the disk version help with this as well or is it just a rumor? Also is the disk version at the same version level and are updates available along with what part Uplay fits into this as in will i be able to play offline. (Personally I think Uplay is rather annoying)

Hi Carferry

The difference between the Steam download and the disk version is that the Steam version does not support TDW's Generic File Patcher.
The GFP is an essential application that fixes a lot of the games problems.

As far as the tonnage bar this is not a problem if you use one of the mega mods the modders have sorted the problem by removing it from the game.

If you can get the dvd then this is the best option, it does not have to say "Gold Edition" as Uplay takes care of that.
The custom dvd installation will allow you to select your crew language and keyboard type.
