I've not played the US campaign in SH4, just the U-Boat campaign. One feature that I did like was the ability for the captain (after I think his second promotion) to call for a plane to scout areas that were en route (and within the airbase's range)
This gave me a chance to get a few kills on the way home from a patrol that I might not otherwise have found on my own.
There was also the ability to call in a support ship (cruiser?) I never found this very useful but perhaps I wasn't using it wisely.
Does the U.S. Campaign have these abilities as well?
Are there other/different abilities that the captain gets?
Are any of them (outside of the scouting one) particularly useful?
