Where do you stand on this?
I started playing "Oblivion", and because it's an 'open world' game I decided it would be nice to go exploring before completing any of the tasks. After struggling through miles of forest and up a dirty great mountain I was confronted by a god-like creature with a jaguar's head who told me I did not yet have enough "renown" to speak to him. In real life I would've apologised and made an appointment for later, but in the game I just wanted to slice him open like a fish.
I've mown down countless old ladies on the streets of Paris in "The Saboteur" while escaping from the Gestapo, but in real life I try to avoid running over slugs when I'm driving.
So I don't buy the idea myself; I think it must be something else turned me into an animal...

Played my share of violent gory games and I left the PC afterward less inclined to kill. It's a nice way of venting :yep:
I could kill for some pudding :O:

That sounds like it could be for me... :hmmm:
I do not think playing violent or gory video games makes you an animal or a bit troppo, for those that have gone a bit troppo were a bit silly to start with. We play, violent or cute and fluffy video games for pleasure same as we play board or card games, how many times did you want to kill someone when they bankrupted you in monopoly or beat your best score on pinball?, it does not mean you will go and sort them out with your gat, you try harder and beat them that way.
I have been playing video games from when the only video games were tv tennis, mice ate cheese and you went to the dentist if you had a mega bite, i love my video games, i'm an addict, taking down a room full of zombies is just as great as making your longest bow shot hit in Crysis 3 or stalking that jap carrier while trying to stay silent to avoid a pounding and none of this has made me any more dangerous to society than being a Scotsman already does.
Video games stimulate the mind and make you strive to be your best at it, they bring people together and they are meant to be fun.

If video games made us all animals, we'd all be animals.
I'm a Wolf and well, alright! Looks like there's Squirrel on the menu today.

Watching porn did not make me a better lover
Playing video games did not make me into a killer
Reading the bible did not make me a christian
Listening to music did not make me understand how to play an instrument
Eating good food did not turn me into a gourmet.
People are responsible for how they "turn out";Not what they read/watch/play.
Getting back to the specific OP topic, there is a reason why they are called Roll Playing games and not True Personality games. :O:

If you really feel this is a problem, I will send you a book I have titled " Dis-functional Squirrels and the nuts who love them " :D
I think the people who have issues with games are the ones who lack the maturity or wisdom to differentiate between reality and fantasy. From the posts I have read here, I think the people here are pretty stable and " mow down zombies " then turn off the computer and go out and mow the grass. Sounds pretty normal to me.
Enjoy your games.

And that's it, really.
Nothing more to add.
But today when a person acts irresponsible, people look for the cause and shove the responsibility away. I never understood this way of thinking, whatever happened to self-responsibility? It is like...it just disappeared.
The "violent video games are baaad" topic reminds me of the movie Equilibrium. It's like we're slowly getting there by becoming hyper sensitive, political correct and more and more hypocritical about... everything.

:haha: I only will order the book if there are pictures in it.
I'm of the same view as you all; my wife did point out that it's different when you're considering what to let kids play, but that will be a matter of good parenting.

I tend to play strategy and grand strategy games. I wonder if it makes me into Hitler then, after all the people's I have wiped from the face of the earth...

Me too. And look after years of wargaming, I'm perfectly normal and well-adjusted. I can't imagine what there is to worry about. :D

Oops. Excuse me. I have a continent to immolate.
I must have killed millions of virtual people by now...perhaps into the billions if you include populations of cities that I've nuked in things like Civilization, DEFCON and the like.
I don't think I've raised my fist in anger in reality for about eighteen years, and I try very hard not to even hold grudges.
Of course, it all depends on the situation, I'd like to think I could give a good account of myself if the moment demanded it, but generally speaking I'm pretty pacifist. I usually talk myself out of any problems I get in. :yep:

Nice touch with the ST Terran empire insignia on the hat
@Oberon: he actually turned the hand guard of the sword the correct way out. The Enterprise empire has the handguard turned back so you stab your hand as soon as you hold it
I should commision you one day for our PoN game one of these days :hmmm:

Back to our regularly scheduled girly sigs. :O:

This probably explains why the Terran Empire was annihilated by the Klingon-Cardassian alliance. :yep:

Video games do not a maniacal killer make.
Unless you want to count drone pilots.
It is those rare, thank the maker, individuals with a lot of loose wiring who can't separate fantasy from reality that cause all of these horrendous acts of wanton endangerment.
So, what can be done to fix the problem?
Background checks for the purchase of violent video games?:haha:
