So I purchased SH5 from steam and came to find out that mods wont work with it. I then purchased a disk of SH5 and no matter how many times i uninstall the steam version and install the disk version once i click on disk verison and it logs on to Uplay it wants to force me to use the steam version (even starting a fresh download of the game even if uninstalled) .

any ideas? I am thinking of modding the disk install then replacing all the steam files with it...will that work?

When you uninstall the game it leaves behind files. There is an SH5 folder in your Documents folder that contains all the saved games. You also need to clean the registry. I use Iobit Uninstaller (http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/iobit_uninstaller.html), which not only uninstalls the selected files but also lets you run a registry uninstaller just for files related to the selected item.

Hi MK

You will have a problem if you are logging into Uplay with your Steam account.

When the dvd installs it will take you to Uplay.

Uplay will ask for your details and does not do anything automatically.

If you are installing a new version from a dvd you will need the following.

The CD key > A new email address > A new password.

SH5 locks into Uplay for life from your system with the above information, that is why a second hand SH5 dvd is useless.

Check your Control Panel and make sure there is nothing there to uninstall.

Go to your C drive and check the program x86 folder to make sure the Ubisoft Game Launcher Folder is not there.

In your documents folder the SH5 folder should not be there if a full uninstall has been done.

Important to run a registry cleaner like Ccleaner which is free and then reboot your system before installing.

See my tutorial post #70.

Run all your applications as administrator.

Make sure you when you install the dvd you run the GU updater see my tutorial post #5.

If you get a windows error message then check out my tutorial post #173
