What Silent Hunter game to return to?

Hi all!

Used to play Silent Hunter III with the Grey Wolves mod, had a blast with that way back. Now I'm keen to return to the submarine warfare and just want input on what game to return to. Since I left, the SH4 and SH5 has been released, and I have seen some bad critics on them, especially SH5. I planned to go back to SH3 even, but as I understand the graphics are a bit dated for modern hardware (resolution issues and so on).

I am all for modding since I know Ubisoft can't do what they should do, so now I am asking you, what should I get?

SH3, SH4, or SH5 and what mods for them?

(Also, I kind of fancy the Atlantic theatre more than the Pacific, why I am somewhat hesitant to SH4. However, a stable and immersive gameplay is more important in my opinion)

Regarding sticking to SH3 Aktungbby, is there any mod available now that will handle the resolution problems, i.e. capable of 1920x1080 and widescreen?

Get SH4 and Operation Monsun mod.

ATO and OK graphics (and you can always switch to fleet boats if you fancy to do so)

Welcome to Subsim Challe. Why Choose between the Silent Hunter series ? play them all :) SH3 and 4 are awesome with all the mods available. I believe others here have modded SH5 to the point where it's good as well but it seems the people here like the immersive gameplay of 3.

I play both 3 and 4. They are very different but great in their own ways. Forced to choose? 3 is still my favorite for mods, atmosphere and challenge.

My favorite SubSim game would have to be Silent Hunter 4. Putt most of my time in to that game. Runs good, has less bugs than the 5th game, easy to get around and has A LOT of awesome mods.
