Hi, I have been away from SH since SH3 days and thought a would man a Uboat once again. Having some difficulties getting my SH5 operational and getting my Uboat out of the bunker. I notice that my UI gauges are not like the WOS videos I have seen - I have the old round gauges to the right when it seems everyone else has them on the left in a nice horizontal layout. Also several of the tutorial state that the UI is corrupt and thus unplayable. I suspect my UI has not successfully updated? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks...

Hi ruskoz

Disable your mods in JSGME

Go to TDW's Options File Editor Viewer and open the UI tab.
http://i60.tinypic.com/2mow07t.jpg

Select the SH5 Enhanced

Some gamers do not like this UI as the speed indicators are 1 step out but your message box confirms your speed.

The trouble with the SH3 UI is that it does not show your course very well and also changing course is slow.

You can use the mouse wheel in the middle section of the SH5 rectangular compass seen in the picture below and it will change the degrees by 5 on each click.

There are many changes that can be made in the OFEV to suit your game play so it is worth going through the patches and seeing what they offer.

You have the option to use the harbor pilot to take your u-boat out of the harbors.

You can see this in the Category list.

THEBERBSTER thanks, but It seems when i reinstall WOS it changes back to the sh3 or 4 gauges again. In your instructions you did not tell me to reinstall the WOS mod. Is there a way to get them both to work together? It also seems that options file viewer might not be working right...because it shows the SH5Enhanced as active even when in game it is clearly not.

I have WOS, WOS real Nav, and WOS 16X9 Res enabled with Generic Mod Enabler. The problem is any changes I make with OFEV dont seem to have any effect? I tested a couple and no dice.

I did follow the instructions to the C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\MODS\The Wolves of Steel 1.04\data\Scripts\Menu\TheDarkWraithUserOptions.py

The WOS mod is installed so where have I gone wrong?

Hi ruskoz

You are losing your OFEV settings probably because it is set up from within TWOS rather than on the outside as a stand alone application.

Just follow these instructions below.

The basis of it is, you make a copy of the OFEV py file after you have made your changes but before you enable the mods.

When you enable the mods you copy and paste the saved py file back to the OFEV.

From my tutorial post #6

1. When you have enabled your first settings in the OFEV and you want to change them when you disable the mods in JSGME all your settings in the OFEV will be lost.
To overcome this problem before disabling the mods you need to make a copy of the "TheDarkWraithUserOtions.py" PY File

2. Copy from > Likely looking path:
Ubisoft
Silent Hunter 5
data
Scripts
Menu
The DarkWraithUserOptions.py < this is the last file in the list

3. When you have disabled the TWOS mods
Copy and paste the saved .py file to > likely looking path
Ubisoft
Silent Hunter 5
Mods
TWOS
data
Scripts
The DarkWraithUserOptions.py

4. Overwrite the existing .py.
5. Make your new OFEV changes.
6. When you have saved your new OFEV changes.
7. Repeat 2 again and keep in a safe place until needed the next time you need to make another change.
8. Enable the Mods.

Bingo! that did the trick. Thank you THEBERBSTER.

Now only two things to do... figure out away to get the sub flags mod to work and then learn how to target/sink ships.

Hi ruskoz

Sub Flags cannot be used with TWOS as it is not compatible and will cause ctd's.

I have edited this from a previous post.
To get the speed the easiest way using “Map contacts”
Use the “O” key or an Officer icon to bring up the stopwatch.
Pause the game.
Open up the target on the map so that you can see its full shape.
With the marker place an X on the bow.
Press the stopwatch start/stop button
Un-pause the game.
Use a little TC and when you get to 3 minutes and 15 seconds pause the game again.
Open up the target so that you can see its full shape again.
Take the marker and place an “X” on bow.
Take the compass and take the measurement from the 2 “X” marks.
600 meters = 6 knots and so on.
If you click on the stopwatch face you will open up the U-Jagd.
I have a tutorial for this.

As a beginner I would not start with using the stadimeter.
Get used to using the TDC first.

I would draw a line with the ruler through the targets shape to a distance to where I want to fire from.
Take the protractor and get a 90ᵒ angle.
Put the protractor on the angle and it will show you the course you need to take up a 90ᵒ firing position.
Position the U-boat at the distance/range you want to fire from.
Measure this distance with the ruler.
This distance is your Range to enter in the TDC
Your periscope 0ᵒ bearing is 90ᵒ, anything to the left or right of it is – or + 90ᵒ
Lock the target.
Use the Identify Target Icon to show you the target and you can set the torpedo depth.
You do not need to use recognition manual unless you are using the stadimeter.
With the target locked.
Move the periscope back to 0ᵒ
In the TDC.
Enter the AOB 90ᵒ
Enter the Range.
Move the periscope until both the Gyro Angle dials are vertical.
Note the periscope bearing.
When the target reaches this bearing fire your torpedo/s.
Make sure the target is locked before firing.
If the target maintains its course the only thing that will change is the range.
Set the torpedo depth against the diagram.
Do not forget to open the torpedo door switches before firing otherwise the time delay may result in a miss.

Completing missions.
When you request a mission you will get a grid patrol area in your Captain’s Log.
This does not happen in the Baltic mission.
You should also not end the Baltic mission before 00.00 4th September stopwatch time or 01.00 nautical time otherwise you will not be able to request the next mission British Coastal Waters.

By completing each grid patrol you are awarded 1 bonus point.
Each mission appears and disappears as its date comes and goes.
I am not aware of any minimum tonnage requirements needed as this was to do with the tonnage bar that has been removed.
SH5 is now similar to both SH3 and SH4 where you receive orders and objectives.

Hi ruskoz

SHIII + GWX3.0 + SH3 commander = Brilliantly thought out

SHV + GWX5.0 + SH5 commander = Ultimate subsim :hmmm: if only?
